It's the time of year where every morsel of information matters. In recent days, I've heard that Texas A&M is trying to recruit Hill primarily through his dad, and that LSU is pushing the mom, according to a New Orleans newspaper. I don't know if that's an accurate description of what's happening or not. But I think the Hills, Holton and his mom and dad, have liked and respected Texas from the start.

Texas was one of three schools Boyd was truly interested in from the beginning of his recruitment. Yet unlike the primary competition, Texas A&M, Boyd has been a priority of the Texas staff since the staff first saw him last year. Despite that, Texas didn't vault to the top of Boyd's list until early December, when Texas cornerbacks coach Chris Vaughn stayed for an entire Gilmer playoff game while coaches from A&M and Baylor bolted at halftime.

Mack has long been a Texas fan. But during the latter part of theMack Brown regime, the shine began to fade on the Longhorns and so did Mack's interest. Mack initially committed to A&M, but for a variety of reasons, he started to move away from Texas A&M. That resulted in a de-commitment this winter and the reopening of his recruitment. Prior to his visit to Texas last weekend, Mack favored TCU, but this still looks like it will come down to the Longhorns and Aggies.

RB, Soso Jamabo, Plano West
Jamabo, a two-sport star, grew up a Texas fan. But, like many others, during the latter part of Brown’s ear, Texas’ began to fade. But Texas never stopped recruiting Jamabo, even though he expressed limited interest in the Longhorns at times. As other teams fell by the wayside, Texas kept steadily improving its chances. Now, it's down to Texas and UCLA.

Following an ACL tear as a junior, few teams recruited Warren as hard as the Longhorns and developed a relationship with his family. Warren returned to form as a senior and the Longhorns continued their pursuit. After visiting Texas, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, Warren and his mom will visit Washington this weekend. Warren's dad played for the Cowboys and Seahawks, and if any team can wrest him from the Longhorns, it's the Huskies. But I think the strength of the relationship he's built with Texas will win the day.

Like so many other recruits, Lodge showed very little interest in Texas after Brown's demise despite growing up a fan of the Longhorns. But Lodge has grown close to quarterback Kyler Murray during his recruitment and wants to play in college with him. So when Lodge and Murray showed up in Austin last week, it was clear that Texas was a possibility for both. I think there's a scenario where Lodge could go to Ole Miss instead of Texas or A&M. Like Murray, Lodge has an in-home visit with Texas A&M today after Texas sent seven coaches to Cedar Hill on Tuesday.

QB, Kai Locksley, Baltimore Gilliam Prep
Locksley chose Florida State over Texas this summer. But the Seminoles also have multiple quarterbacks in the class, while the Longhorns currently have none. Locksley's long-term relationship with Charlie Strong -- Locksley's dad coached with Strong at Florida – is a big positive for Texas. But Florida State made an in-home visit Wednesday evening that reportedly went well. Now, Locksley must choose yet again -- stay with Florida State or head to Texas.

Long committed to Georgia, Baker's interest has been steady since the Longhorns offered him a scholarship in the fall. The history of success in developing players from South Florida by Strong and defensive coordinator Vance Bedford is playing a large role in this decision.

Rewind to six weeks ago, and it's hard to believe the process has gone this far. But that's where we are. Murray is sincerely interested in Texas and the opportunity to start from day one in Austin. Like so many of the players we're discussing, Brossette has long been committed elsewhere. He pledged to LSU approximately a year ago. But Texas assistant Chris Vaughn was undeterred and has built a good relationship with Brossette and his family. Strong has connected well with the family, too. If Strong makes an in-home on Saturday, it could portend good things for the Longhorns.

CB, Davante Davis, Miami Booker T. Washington
Texas prioritized Davis early in the process, and Texas eventually earned his commitment just after Christmas. Since that time, the Horns have spent a lot of time trying to fend off multiple suitors, including Auburn, Miami and, most recently, Florida State. But each of those schools and their coaches actually put Davis on the back-burner for months before re-engaging with him, and that's not something that has gone unnoticed by Davis. Davis could make an official visit to Auburn this weekend to see his friend Tim Irvin, but that visit has been off and on over the last couple of days.
