2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Bobby Burton is reporting that Auburn has essentially run out of scholarships for DB's - and as a result it is likely that Davante Davis sticks with the Longhorns.

Burton says that a week ago he would have put odds on retaining Davis at less than 40%, but says that now he expects it is more likely than not.

I can pretty much assure you that neither of them knew anything about Murray being in Austin.

Whatever those guys may be saying now, I think what happened is that they decided its best for their business if they allow that idea to persist - that they were informed and knowledgeable of all pertinent facts.  I dont believe that they actually were.  But, probably does not matter either.

I have seen several segments of some of their chats where things are getting testy behind the walls.  Hamm, for one, threatened to start banning people if they did not stop disparaging his recruiting acumen.  And we have seen several of them in a defensive posture.  Even all the way up to Brent Zwerneman, who is supposed to be a professional journalist.  It's fun to sit back and watch

This is going to be a big commitment, as it ultimately means three commitments. In my opinion, wherever Kris Boyd commits, Holton Hill and DeMarco Boyd commit as well. A&M might have messed up if they didn't offer DeMarco this weekend. With that said, I think Texas has had this one in the bag for well over a month now. I think Kris has simply had fun trolling some fan bases.

IMO, not a smart move to not offer DeMarco.  He is solid player own his own

Has Liucci even acknowledged the Kevin Murray and Charlie Strong have known each other for 30 years, since Strong was on Jackie Sherrill's staff when Kevin Murray was the aggy QB? Of course not, because the aggys don't want to hear that. I have no idea what Kevin Murray's relationship is with Kevin Sumlin, but I have zero concerns that Charlie Strong doesn't understand exactly where Kyler stands.

The one thing Kyler Murray has that Johnny Manziel didn't have is responsible adults in his life. I can't think Kevin Murray was impressed with how Sumlin let Manziel get away with whatever he wanted and now that Manziel is in the NFL, he has no maturity, no discipline and no work ethic. I can't think Kevin Murray is going to allow his son to follow in Johnny Manziel's footsteps. The way Sumlin let Kenny Hill fall apart off the field last season couldn't have helped things for the Murray/Sumlin relationship. Let's not forget Speedy Noil wasn't on campus six weeks before he was almost arrested with Golden and Claiborne when Golden was arrested for possession. Kevin Murray knows exactly how Kevin Sumlin runs his program.

Kyler Murray may well end up at aggy, but if anyone thinks Kevin Murray wants Kevin Sumlin to develop his son like Manziel and Kenny Hill were brought along, they are nuts. Kevin Murrray wants to build his QB guru business (don't forget one of his clients is UT grayshirt Matt Merrick). Kevin Murray needs to have good relationships with college coaches for his business to grow. He isn't going to allow Charlie Strong to be blindsided by Kyler's decision. We are grasping for information, but Charlie Strong most likely isn't.

I, for one, am thankful the information is being held on lockdown for a change. The Mack Brown era of individuals related to the program taking it upon themselves to decide what information to be made public was pure bullshit and detrimental to the interests of the program. One thing all of us wanted was to get the energy and interest back into the program and by the traffic on every board out there, Charlie Strong is managing to do just that. He also seems to be guarding information carefully and making sure it is released to serve his agenda, not the individual agendas of people who happen to have friends writing for various websites.

My instincts tell me Charlie Strong is both stage managing the information for dramatic effect and respecting the interests of the recruits by allowing them to have their moment. They have worked to have the opportunity to be on a bigger stage and by allowing them to have it, it feels as if Coach Strong is allowing them to have an experience they will long remember.
Excellent post. While we have reason for excitement, we should not yet view all of this as a done deal. It is certainly possible, and Charlie does seem to have the momentum, but this is just going to have to play out.

Whatever the final result, it is pretty clear that Strong has put Texas back on the recruiting map. We are getting attention from kids we would not have had much chance at a year or two ago.

Those of us who follow these boards can pipe dream a lot, but we also all need to understand that in this new day of social media and texting, that many of these kids are connected, have a good idea what they are going to do, and are having fun with us.

So we all probably need to sit back and watch it all happen. It looks good, but anything can happen. Enjoy.

R Duke I'm having trouble quoting your last post so I'll just had a post in response:

The positive thinking part of me is telling me these things you mention. Very solid approach to this situation.

The negative part is that Kevin let's Kyler ultimately go where his heart is. Growing up an aggy it may be hard to overcome.

I'm of the opinion this will be a much closer decision than many think. If I had to guess, the decision will come after this weeks visits and coaches will be notified. NSD will probably be surprising to us but the coaches will know whos coming.

We might have some solid rumor to go off of after the Thursday and Friday visits...but the info has stayed so tight thus far we might all just have to wait.
Another great post. I think Charlie is letting this play out the way the kids (and their parents) want it to. I strongly suspect many of them have already made up their minds, but Murray is the bell cow in this group for some of them. If he decides for Texas, then great things happen. If he does not, however, we will still end up with a very, very good recruiting class. I really strongly suspect that they all have a pretty good idea about what is going to happen.

I do know one thing......after the events of the last 2 weeks I'm never playing poker with Charlie Strong.
A few months ago, Shevis and I were musing about LHN and I told him the one ad I wanted to see was one of Pat Moorer, Ricky Williams, Vince (maybe Deloss) and a few others playing a game of poker in one of the Bellmont officers with a clock in the background reading 11:30pm and Charlie Strong sticking his head in to say he was leaving. Cut to Charlie Strong walking out of his office at 5am in his running gear getting ready to go for his run when all the guys but Moorer are walking out of the game shaking their heads and when they get in the elevator with Charlie, Charlie just laughs and says "Let me guess, you thought he was bluffing." Cut to final shot of Moorer stacking up the chips on the table with that deadpan look his is famous for. Then fade to the LHN logo. Charlie Strong would probably be fun to play poker with. Pat Moorer would be the one I would avoid.

We been tracking that possibility for awhile here - good to hear it is becoming reality

Looking at Davante Davis from the Auburn perspective --

At the moment, Auburn has 2 safeties committed and 1 ATH who could be a DB. They do not have any specific CBs committed. We think they want 2 CB's and are in hot pursuit of 8 CBs total.  They had two CBs visit last week (Davis and Redwine) and have 2 more this coming weekend (Justin Martin and Jeremiah Dinson).

Here is Auburn 247 latest take on 5 of the 8 CBs they are chasing --

Jeremiah Dinson -- offered by Auburn last week and will visit Jan. 23.   Florida also ...  in the picture. How heavily the Tigers pursue could determine the outcome.  Auburn was expected to visit him Tuesday.

Javarius Davis -- visited Auburn over the weekend, and he is extremely close with Tigers cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson ....  We believe Davis is now a strong Auburn lean

Sheldrick Redwine -- visited Auburn last weekend, and is believed to be high on the Tigers’ board.  He will official with the Cards this weekend, and Texas the next.  A final decision will come a day or two after the latter, he said.  Auburn has made a significant move with Redwine in the past week, and may be close to even with Louisville.

Justin Martin -- 4-star Vols commit expected to visit the Tigers this weekend.  Because Martin has junior college experience, he could be more ready to play early than a high school recruit — and Auburn certainly needs immediate help at corner in 2015.

Davante Davis -- Texas commit is close with Auburn safety commit Tim Irvin and has a prior relationship with Robinson.  Davis expected to visit Auburn on Jan. 30.

Javarius Davis has the best odds of joining the class, followed by Dinson and Redwine.   Martin is a wild-card.

Conclusion - IF Auburn247 has it correct, then it appears Davante Davis is more of a backup plan for them.  IF some of these other guys commit early, then they might even be full at CB before he ever visits them.  The worst scenario from our perspective would be if they land both Davis and Redwine.  The best is if they fill up now without either.

From what the recruits at the OV this weekend are saying all I know is something big is going to happen and they know it 100%. Does that mean KM? I don't know. I'm just pretty excited because they wouldn't be saying that if it wasn't true. Kai, Soso, and Mack would make me pretty damn happy, KM would just make me go on a 3 day drinking binge of excitement and shortly after depression cause no way my girlfriend will stay if she thinks this is what every year is going to be.

That would be pure gold!

If you talk to him again tell him to return a text every now and then! We saw him in December right before the treatment started and he has sent me a couple pics of "the mask." He is a pretty special person to my wife and I. My daughter watched her first UT game because of his generosity. I will always be grateful for that.

Maybe… but Pro Baseball won't claim all of his friends.

Hook 'em

Daylon Mack as the next Big Papi?

And, in any event, that article came out after the possibility of Murray to Texas appeared, and after his rant about the LHN
