I was happy when we had Gentry as a verbal. I thought he fit what Charlie and company wanted to accomplish. However over the last few weeks we have heard from several different recruits that the offense is going to go more spread and utilize skill of more athletic type QBs. I think we would all have to assume that this got back to Gentry, hell the coaches may have even told him.
Then you have the likes of Kai and Kyler coming in on visits, who are QBs that fit the mold of the new rumored offense along with Heard already here.
If you are Gentry and you see all of that going on and then you get a coach like Harbaugh from the NFL show up a major college that there was some interest early, he had to take a serious look.
Guys, I know we like to think the verbal commitments mean a lot, but they don't. Coaches break commitments to the players (not saying Strong would), all the time. Plus this has become big business. These guys who have that slim chance to make the NFL have to do what they feel is best for them. In this case going to play under Harbaugh had to seem like a better chance considering the rumored changes in offense here at Texas.
I have no hard feelings for the young man and wish him well.
