The guys over at Auburn247 are saying that Irvin flipping to Auburn isn't nearly as a for sure thing as people are saying. Irvin apparently has no relationship with any of the players or coaches. His only relationship is with T-Rob. He's also worried about Malzahn taking another job and T-Rob going somewhere else. Essentially, they said it's 50/50 at best and Auburn will have to blow him away on his visit.
Good to hear. That first sentence matches my intuition. The second, my anticipation, with guarded expectation.A poster on TOS said that a tweet addressed by Michael Irvin indicated that Tim was only taking the trip to honor the wishes of his long time friend, T-Rob. Said he's all Texas.
Auburn 24/7 is backing off their confidence with Irvin.
Which is what I was saying from the get go.A poster on TOS said that a tweet addressed by Michael Irvin indicated that Tim was only taking the trip to honor the wishes of his long time friend, T-Rob. Said he's all Texas.

Clarington spoke with someone at OB. He says (1) he is solid Texas, andSomeone randomly DM'ed me on Twitter. It was a conversation between him and Cherry (not sure if it was on Twitter or a text message). I guess they have a relationship or something. Essentially Cherry doesn't think Davante Davis is going anywhere. I'm not sure if Cherry really knows anything, but Cherry doesn't think Davis is going anywhere.
The more I read about this young man, the more I like him. He is showing wisdom beyond his years with that statement.Clarington spoke with someone at OB. He says (1) he is solid Texas, and
(2) he thought he has more influence on Davis than Irvin does (they were HS teammates) - but he doesnt badger them.
"When we went on visit, they were cool. But I don't know. I'd pretty much say I have more influence. I want them to come with us, but I'm not going to influence them. I'll let them chose their decision. I don't want to badger them. If that's their decision, it's their life. I'll support it."
Re: Camrin Knight - I'm surprised they're still talking with him, I had assumed he was just a fall back option if Clarington didn't commit. Maybe because of the recent transfer the coaches want to get another guy in.There is another potential TE out there for us. Apparently coaches have been talking to Camrin Knight (6'4,220) -- current Fla commit. He is a high school teammate of John Burt. There is a chance he may visit with Burt on Jan 30. From our side, we would like another but there is a numbers crunch.
--------------
Another note related to Clarington is the idea that his solid commitment allows Strong to slow play the TE assistant hire. Many college assistants have contract clauses that prohibit them from negotiating any move until after NSD.
A name they threw out as WR coach was Mike Groh who has been in NFL last 2 years (with Bears who are changing staffs now), but who was on Strong's staff at Louisville (as QB coach).
"I'm not dragging it out for dramatic effect. This is my future. For a lot of people, a commit is not sacred any more. That's not me. I just want to do it the right way, ultimately do what's best for me. At end of day, I have to do what's best for me,"
Newsome is a smart kid. He's going to take all of the time he needs to make the best decision for himself. Whether it's Texas or Tennessee, I'll be rooting for the kid to succeed.Ryan Newsome is still undecided
Same 3 teams -- our problem for him is the lack of a QB. But he likes Heard and has good relationship with our coaches -- Strong and TRob (our TRob, not the other one, heh).
He also did a 21 day "media fast"

......
Makes a lot of sense if Strong wants to go a little more up tempo. A couple of good pass catching TE's should make Jerrod Heards life easier next season.Apparently, it's been ongoing. He says -- "I'm going on a visit soon. Right now I don't know when. Most likely it will be the last week of January..........I hear from them a lot, actually. They told me basically they want to be there, things like that."
About Gators, he says -- "Right now I'm still committed to them. I like everything they have, the new coaches they're bringing and I'm excited to meet them."
So, to me, sounds like we have a legit shot given the changes going on at UF. The other issue being whether we even have a spot. But think of how weird it would be for us to have not one but two TEs who can actually catch the ball. That would probably confuse alot of Texas fans. Like the caveman and fire. We would need to film those reactions -- Oscar material i tell you
I don't understand Lampkin's shakiness. Strong's staff is proven, stable, and he will have Rumph as the position coach. M Brown is likely going in the first round. Malik is coming as a LB to clean up behind the D-Line.The backup plan at DT if Lamkin gets wobbly (ou) might be Ross Donelly (6'2,300) of Cy Fair
Current Stanford lean
I have been wondering what we were going to do at DT, felt like we needed another (of course, wanted it to be Mack)

I still predict that he goes to Auburn, it is in Tim's best interest to talk up Texas until he has a chance to see Auburn. I'm sure the Irvin's are aware CFS is not happy about this visit, so they want to play this down.A poster on TOS said that a tweet addressed by Michael Irvin indicated that Tim was only taking the trip to honor the wishes of his long time friend, T-Rob. Meanwhile, Stoops is turning over his staff.
2015 is the craziest year I can recall.
