2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Deshon Elliott is visiting this weekend instead of next.. Only recent update on the OV visit thread pinned to the top..

Apparently Elliott and Brossette have become buds.  from yesterday ...

Nick Brossette on his upcoming visit --

“Just being around the players and the coaches. Just how I get along with all of them.â€

“I don’t talk about my commitment, I keep it between my family and I.  LSU is still home, but I’m seeing what else is out there and just making some visits. It’s just LSU and Texas right now. That’s really about it.â€

DeShon Elliott may visit Austin the same weekend due to Brossette.  The two became friends at their all-star game.

Ryan Newsome is still in play for us

Coaches visiting today

Newsome -- "If it were up to my mom or dad they’d want to see me at Texas.  My mom wants to see me there. i think that is with any mother.  She wants to be able to see and be around.  She wouldn’t be able to do that at UCLA.  But if that was really a problem for me UCLA wouldn’t even be in there and we’d be talking about the Texas spring game or something."

Shot at Irvin?  "I’m not going to be that guy that wavers about it.  You’ve got guys that commit to schools and then take visits elsewhere. i don’t like it at all. that’s like cheating on your wife."

“I was hearing from Charles, which doesn’t come as a surprise, DeShon Elliott and Malik.  Me and Malik, we are really tight with each other. He knows how it is.  We look to each other with problems and issues. He understands and backs off a little bit. but those other guys come after me no matter what.â€

If we don't get Jamabo, I feel like Brossette is a must get. I've said time and time again, I think he's a top back in this class. He's the full package.

When I read this it reminded of just how screwed up we let our QB depth become.

Also, looks like Brewer has a degree and 2 years of eligibility left

Soso is a very intriguing back, no doubt.  And our RB depth is depleted.  So, we can clearly sell "opportunity."

The right college OC should be able to put him in a position to dominate.  I wonder if he looks at it this way?  If I were him, I would be thinking Oregon/Baylor (but dont tell him I said that)

I've read that he is also a very good basketball player on a great team.  I am not sure if he is playing this season, but do know that HS team is highly ranked this season.  And he is close to those teammates who all seem to be going to aggy.  The exception is Merrick who he played AAU ball with.

Sounds like our entire defensive staff is going to see him (aggy staff follows)

The defensive staff is supposed to also be seeing today --

Charles Omenihu

Chris Warren's dad says son will make all visits, then decide.  All 4 schools "in play" -- UT, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Washington.   Also some indication they will be watching to see what Brossette does this weekend.

Brossette was asked yesterday about Horns -- "Good chance.  I can’t give you a percentage. If I had to guess I’d give the Longhorns at worst a 50-50 chance right now."

The EEs --

Quincy Vasser arrived Monday.

Tristan Nickelson arrived Wednesday.

Garrett Thomas, Brandon Hodges, Connor Williams today.

Malik Jefferson Saturday.

Juan, I can understand Oregon for a running back, especially breaking in a new QB. I am not sol on Baylor and their commitment to consistently run the ball. If they had any running game they would have won their bowl game. IMO

Baylor can run the ball. See our game against them this year. Briles was very committed the 2nd half and we could not stop them.

Longhorn Scot with a quick review of how Brewer got to where he is today, in case you forgot --

http://www.burntorangenation.com/2015/1/14/7550131/connor-brewer-transfer-arizona-wildcats-texas-longhorns

"............ He's also still the only quarterback in Arizona history to win three state championships.

Ranked as the No. 4 pro-style passer nationally, Brewer committed to the Longhorns before the first Junior Day in 2011 despite offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Stanford, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

At a time when David Ash had struggled as a freshman, Garrett Gilbert was gone from the program, and Case McCoy didn't look like a long-term option, Brewer seemingly had a real chance to emerge as the starter when he arrived.

instead, Ash had an up-and-down 2012 season as Brewer redshirted, following major lows with significant highs and ultimately finishing the season on a positive note in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon State.

So when Brewer got arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol and public intoxication the next February, lost reps to early enrollee Tyrone Swoopes the next spring, then faced the potential to lose reps to McCoy in the fall after the younger McCoy had spent the summer away from the program, the Arizona native decided to take his chances elsewhere with Ash seemingly entrenched as the starter.

So Brewer transferred back home to Arizona, with friend and fellow 2012 prospect Cayleb Jones eventually followed him to Tucson.

But it didn't work out there, either, as Jones emerged while Brewer was consigned to the bench after losing the job to a redshirt freshman in Anu Solomon who went on to pass for almost 3,800 yards and 28 touchdowns and solidify himself as the starter.

Once again looking for a place to land, Texas might be an option with the current quarterback situation and few other legitimate graduate transfer options out there -- since Brewer has his degree, he will be eligible immediately, with an extra year of eligibility compared to most graduate transfers....."

If coaches are in Gilmer today, will they take a little drive down Hwy. 271 to Gladewater since they are so close?
