The Season: 2005

I watched the entire thing again.  So much to respect about that team.  Work ethic, cohesiveness, confidence.  They knew how to have fun, and they knew how to work.  Work hard.   Play hard.  They knew when to get down to business, and they were so incredibly talented.  It was a complete team.

Agree... They had it all.

I was in the upper north end zone when USC scored that TD. A couple of UT fans in my row stood up to leave, and this other guy said, "If y'all leave now, you will hate yourselves for the rest of your lives."

So Duke - did they stay or leave?

I wasn't able to find the clip, but I remember a post game interview with Kasey Studdard when the reported asked him how he was going to celebrate the national championship he said "Probably go hog huntin'... I like they way the squeal after you shoot em'... weee weeeee"

Still terrifies me....

One of my buddies from Orangebloods knew I was going to the game. After I came home, he had surprised me by sending me a set of DVDs he had recorded of basically everything every channel had broadcast about it, pre- and post-game. I may just re-watch those this weekend.

Nah...just makes me sad

With all of the natural advantages we have, we should have been in more than two MNC games in this century.

At a minimum, we should have been at least been winning some conference championships.  Technically, we were Big 12 champions in 1996, 2005 and 2009 only (in 19 seasons).  We were in 5 Big 12 Championship Games (winning those 3).  We had the best (or tied for the best) regular season conference record 4 times.

Big 12 Conference Football  -- bolded is regular season best record.

1996 - Nebraska (Texas won title game, Neb/Texas were Bowl Alliance Reps)

1997 - Nebraska (Neb beat aggy in title game, Neb/KSU both BARs)

1998 - KSU (aggy beat KSU in title game, aggy only BCS team)

1999 - Nebraska (Neb beat Texas in title game, Neb only BCS team)
2000 - ou
2001 - Texas/Colo/Neb (Colo beat Texas in title game, Colo/Neb were BCS teams)
2002 - Colo (ou won title game, ou  only BCS team)
2003 - ou (KSU won title game, ou/KSU were BCS teams)

2008 - ou/Tech/Texas (ou beat Mo in title game, Texas/ ou were BCS teams)(ugh)
2009 - Texas
2010 - Neb/Mo/ou/OSU/aggy (ou beat Neb in title game, ou only BCS team)
2011 - OSU (here begins no title game)

2012 - KSU/ou (KSU is BCS team)
