2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

yeah i know that hip i know they desperately need a qb i aint disputing that at all

Even if you want/think Heard wil win the starting job - Texas desperately needs a QB who is capable of backing him up and winning games if called upon - they don't have that guy on the roster.
This ^^^^  I think we know Swoopes can't do it, that leaves Gentry as the only real back-up option on this team.  We need another QB that can fill the back up role and push Heard.  I do think Heard is our QB though.

lol you beat me to it i was just gonna say that..now dont me wrong now...Im happy Strong is addressing the offensive issue and the QB issue...which is why i was thinking awhile back Locksley to begin with...but im glad to see we are getting somewhere with this

This – plus, as Charlie said, he wants competition. Competition makes everyone better.

QB position is one spot where injury is becoming not a possibility, but a likelihood. So you better have at least two who can play.

Jeff Howe and Barton SImmons have thrown in the towel on Burt to Auburn on the CB
It won't surprise me if we only take 2 WRs in this class. A lot of chatter that we've already backed off Newsome. We took a crap ton of WRs last year and already have 2 WRs committed in the '16 class. Texas has more immediate needs IMO too. Texas will take another DB or RB over another WR. It will suck losing Burt because of his talent, but I'm not that upset about losing a WR.

Some stuff on Holton Hill

In late Novemeber, he named his top 5 of LSU, FSU, Bama, Baylor & Texas, eliminating aggy.
He previously took OVs to LSU and FSU, but Chavis' departure eliminated LSU's chances.

His remaining OVs are --
Jan 16 Texas
Jan 23 Baylor
Jan 30 open for Bama (I dont think this has actually been scheduled).

One thing in our favor is that Hill has mentioned he is looking for early playing time while Alabama already has 7 DBs committed for 2015, including 2 five-stars.  They also had two more 5-stars in the 2014 class.  Further, in 2014, they started a sophomore and junior at CB.  Hopefully, someone is pointing this out to him.

BON doesn't like Baylor's chances saying that although Baylor is "a school that could also offer the opportunity of early playing time [the Bears] winning recruitments like Hill's just haven't been that common, especially in the secondary -- most of the big-time success has come in the trenches defensively with guys like Javonte Magee and Andrew Billings."  http://www.burntorangenation.com/recruiting/2015/1/5/7495629/holton-hill-texas-longhorns-official-visit-baylor-bears

One more item in our favor is that Hill was HS teammates with Horn John Bonney.

Hill recently told OB --

On Texas: "I just want to see how they are set up next year. I've been up there multiple times. I just want to make sure I have a good time."  When asked a follow-up question about the Longhorns, he mentioned that the relationship with the staff is very strong and he likes the way they have planned on using him."
On Baylor: "They need lots of help on the defensive side of the ball."
On Alabama: "Alabama has a real good development program and they rotate a lot of defensive backs."
Hill also noted that he will make his decision near Signing Day and that he's looking for "the best place that fits me and my playing style."

Since Hill shut down recruiting in the Fall, there hasn't been much 247 CB movement.  BON notes "There was a stretch in October when there were several predictions made for Baylor, a surge for the Bears that continued with several more predictions in November when it started to become clear that the Aggies were no longer a contender.  In the last few days, however, there has been some movement for Texas for the first time since November, as four predictions for the Longhorns have come in as a result of Hill's time in Los Angeles at the Semper Fi Bowl.  Texas now stands with 67% of his predictions compared to 25% for Baylor." (same link as above^)

I think it's important to remember that this is a rebuild, and even thought there is a lot of young talent coming in....it is YOUNG talent, and there will be growing pains. A juco is going to be asked to come in a learn a complicated offense over the summer..seems hard. I mean if you can get someone who has graduated like Miller to transfer, sure. I would go ahead and try to bring in Kai, and have all these young guys battle. The thing is who will be enrolled for spring at that position, Heard, Swoopes, and the walk ons, unless Miller comes right?

well from his twitter Newsome did say he had an announcement on Tuesday and it was not about committing just yet

If they indeed have backed off Newsome (and that's been my thought for the past few days), that means they've probably got something lined up with Strickland. I doubt Lodge makes his visit here.

I think there's at least one more WR in this class to come.

I would not be surprised to see both Brossette and Warren in this class.

Don't ask me how it's made to work (numbers). I gave up.

Bingo!

Heard as a RS-FR starting, backed up by Swoopes, with Gentry red-shirting, and a couple of walk-ons is not what you want.

From reading different boards, I don't think there are any posters who know how the numbers are going to work.

But I bet C. Strong knows!

I guess it will depend on numbers. I think Strong takes all these guys over another WR: Boyd, Hill, Brossette, Warren, Mack, Fields, Richmond, and Locksley. I think Texas has a realistic shot with at least 6 of those guys if not all of them.

I'm interested to see something official on what actually went down with Newsome. It's nothing but rumors so far. If we did indeed back off Newsome, that tells me we aren't going after another WR in this class because we had a long-term relationship with him.

I doubt you hear anything definitive from either party if there was such a parting of the ways. Sometimes recruits will say "they ran out of room" but often times they'll just say they really wanted to commit to where they committed to.

I think getting Richmond is dreaming at this point. He's intrigued enough to visit so you never know.

The more I read and see re: Fields, the more I like. If we were to get him, I'd be ok going without Boyd if necessary. I think Fields is a better Boyd, slightly. But Boyd gets us two recruits (himself and his brother).

Although I have never seen Heard play, I have a friend who was a Texas High school coach for 34 years who tells me once Heard gets to play one game- He will be the starter from then on.  My coach friend has seen numerous of Heard's games and believes he is the real deal.  He said even as a junior, when a play would break down, Heard would continue with his eyes down field.  He said this is an exceptional trait for such a young player.

I certainly hope we start with him as starter and see if anyone else can beat him out.
