Omenihu thinks we are getting Kirkland with this tweet:

'Twould be nice.

I really hope he's right. That would definitely dull the pain of Malik choosing Aggie.

FWIW - Bobby Burton is saying that a writer very close to Kirlands family (and who spoke to his father last night) says that it is down to Tennessee and Ole Miss.

That would be disapointing.

Steve Wiltfong.....same guy that said Gentry was all Vols and that Cherry wouldn't decommit from the Vols.

And then said Tenn let Cherry go to make room for Kirkland. lol

Bobby is often right. This isn't one of those times, IMO.

That's the one thing I dislike about 247. They rely too often on other people's intel. Bobby is basing this entirely on what this Steve Wiltfong guy is saying. Here's an idea try and contact Kirkland or his father and reach your own conclusion. Entirely too much confirmation bias recently on 247. One guy reports something and the entire network runs with that info.

Sir you really think he's ours do you know something I don't know. I sure hope you are right.

Well, like I said. His last visit was to UT. He just had Charlie Strong in his home right before he moves his timeline up.

Yes, I think he's a Horn.

And SHA, isn't speaking as a Horns Homer. He's been calling Malik to A&M for around two weeks or so. I agree with SHA, I think we have a strong chance here given how the past week has gone before he shut down his recruitment.

Alright, I'll go with that thank you Sir. Just been hearing this other stuff about this Steve dude talking to his dad and saying it's Ole Miss and Tennessee. My first thought it was Texas.

The staff feels like he's a Horn, according to a very good source.

That's Hager, Cherry and Kirkland for the middle.

I'll say this – I've said Malik to aggy for a while now. However, I don't underestimate Charlie's ability to flip this guy. The strategy being used is effective, I'm told. Sumlin showed up with no clue on a DC. Wasn't received well. Charlie has charted all the defenses that Sumlin has produced and shows all the DCs he's been through in such a short time span. It's, uh, working. Is it enough though?

TE recruiting news:

USC got a verbal today from a 4-star TE who was committed to Duke previously. I mention this because USC was/is a finalist for TE prospect Chris Clark.

To take this a step further, Bedford laid out the lack of development of defensive players under Sumlin dating back to his time at Houston through his time as the aggy HC. It's apparent that their plan of attack was to show Jefferson what he would be stepping into if he went there using cold hard facts.

It's one thing for a coach to sit there and say he's going to develop you better, but it's completely different when Bedford and to an even greater extent Strong can sit here and rattle off player after player after player that they have signed and developed into an NFL draft pick when their competition hasn't done it anywhere he's been.

I still don't think that Jefferson commits to us Friday. I think Sumlin has brainwashed him to an extent as being the guy who's going to turn around the aggy defense. But the fact that Strong and Co have gotten us back as close as we are in a relatively short amount of time tells me all I need to be told. These guys can recruit and they're going to be hell come 2016 and beyond when coaches like Sumlin don't have a relationship advantage like they've had this year.

Friend of mine says we're going to get 5-6 commitments in the next two weeks.

Sumlin says hey that's not fair, he's using facts. I would have loved to have seen that exchange.  From the articles I've read about Malik, relationships seems to be the most important part of his decision. Sumlin had a recruiting head start on Malik since Coach Strong was at Louisville. MJ also has a good relationship with the aggie LB coach, plus his friends and his girlfriend are at A&M.

If Malik makes this a football decision, Texas is much better choice as far as getting the best of Malik's ability and helping him go to the NFL Coach Strong's first recruiting class at Louisville had two NFL defensive players that went in the first round and they were both three star recruits.
