2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

Chris Warren's mom after the in-home from UT coaches --

“They were there for a long time,†K’Tara Lopez said. “It was a great visit. It was very relaxed, good conversation, and a lot of laughing.†

“Tommie (Robinson) talked a lot about football and even asked about Chris’ plans to stay in shape and what he would be doing training wise.  Chris (Rumph) talked a lot about Coach Strong’s Thursday academic meetings where each player is reviewed once a week.†

“Like I have always told you, the academic support is and will always remain a key part to wherever Christopher decides he will go to school.  So I liked that one! Coach Strong talked to me yesterday and stated a parent can be involved in the process of setting up an academic center plan for their student athlete to customize it based on knowledge each parent has on their student. That is a great and very cool option.†

“He (Coach Rumph) did an impersonation of Coach Strong at a meeting when negative report comes up for an athlete.  He stops and calls the student at that very minute and they must show up immediately so he can address the issue right after the meeting.â€

“Charlie will have the academic support center go through the changes he has made at Texas and what improvements, in regards to progress of current athletes, have taken place.  Also, they will have off-the-field items Coach Strong has put in for player growth.†

“Really, for Chris, it will be about what the players are like and finding out if it is a whole group of guys that he feels will fit his personality.â€

JUCO OL Brandon Hodges after his OV --

“Coach Strong is a nice guy.  The facilities are nice. We stayed at a nice hotel. They showed major love.â€

“I was 11 hours away from home and you go somewhere else you should feel at home.  If you do it says a lot. So it was a good day for Texas.â€

Navarro JUCO DE Vasser will announce noon today.

According to one of the pay sites - Coach Rumph will be on campus at Navarro when Vasser announces.  I assume thats a good sign that he is going Texas.
LOL.  It better be, otherwise gonna be pretty awkward

Will be a good pickup at a position of need.

We also will have Omenihu and Brown in this class at DE.

Vasser will also enroll in January, which should work out great

In-homes in the Houston area today are--

WR Kemah Siverand (aggy commit but listening to pitches from us and piggy)

LB Cameron Townsend (UT commit, taking OV in Jan)
CB Holton Hill (visited FSU last weekend.  Coach Vaughn saw Kris Boyd yesterday, who went to FSU with Hill.  They have discussed playing together at next level.  The consensus seems to be that its us or Baylor)

Some other in-home due today are UT commits -

OL Buck Major

DE Louis Brown

Also

DT Du'Vonta Lampkin has set an OV to ou.  Texas coaches have an in-home Lampkin this week.

from Scout -- "WHO IS UT COMMITMENT QUINCY VASSER?" by William Wilkerson

"The Longhorns picked up a big commitment from a versatile JUCO defensive lineman on Wednesday.

But just who is Quincy Vasser (Navarro College)?

Well, he played his prep school football in New York before attending Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virg. in the fall of 2012 where he was really able to show off just how valuable an asset he truly is.

“I was an All-State tight end in high school and UConn and Rutgers  were both recruiting me,†Vasser told Scott Eklund of JCFootball.com. “But I wasn't able to get my grades good enough to get qualified, so Rutgers told me about Hargrave and I headed there.

“I went there for a quarter and they moved me to defensive end and I think it was a great change. I loved the move and am happy I stuck with it."

From there Vasser committed to Georgia on April 17. One of the big reasons he chose the Bulldogs in the first place was because he knew two of their players, John Atkins and Leonard Floyd, and “thought it would be great playing with them.â€

As a freshman at Navarro last year, Vasser played weakside defensive end and finished with 26 tackles, 4.5 sacks, eight tackles-for-loss and a blocked a kick as well.

"I'm probably at my best stopping the run just because I'm really good at reading blocks and then I can hold up along the line," Vasser told Eklund. "I'm working a lot this offseason on how I use my hands and my flexibility in my hips too."

Vasser is an important piece for Texas in 2015 because he could be an immediate plug-in at strongside defensive end with Cedric Reed moving on to the NFL.

Shiro Davis and Caleb Bluiett will both be back, and are sure to see solid playing time. But the fact that they both got passed over by Naashon Hughes should say something about how the staff views them.

The cupboard isn’t exactly packed with DEs right now given that UT only took one defensive end in 2014 and missed on the position in 2014, though, Hughes, an original grey shirt offer by Mack Brown, has been converted into a hybrid DE.

Spoke with a friend today. Very disappointed with what I was told. Involves MJ and why he will end up at aggy. Was also told that Boyd will likely follow him there in the 11th hour.

nothing surprises us anymore mark!  mj's mother seems to be a very matronly / warm hearted type... i just hope that nothing very underhanded took place that could sadden her...

While that would certainly suck - if we can grab a few of the Florida kids I don't think it would be that terrible a turn of events.

Put it this way . . Patterson has been made aware.

I'm sure Mom MJ is as nice and warm hearted as they get.

Can't tell if thats meant to be sarcastic or not - but thats why I like it.

Even if we're as knuckles deep in all of this as every other University - it still sucks.  Recruiting is infuriating.
