2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

This is what Malik said on Texags, "They have grit. They fight for everything they have," Jefferson noted. "They work really hard at what they're doing with less talent than what some other schools have. They're putting on a show for people right now on defense."

I don't think he was interviewed on Gigem247. All Hamm said is that he's feeling less confident about Malik ending up at A&M and that he's apparently been tell Mack to take more visits.

The crystal balls have started to trend for Texas on 247. Take that as you will.

Hear is what I heard aggy recruiters are saying about UT - this is not verbatim but simply the gist of their negative talk:

"Why do you think the UT defense is good?  BYU crushed them and Iowa State, of all teams, just dropped 45 on them, in their house.  And who has UT beaten?   ISU, NTS and KU are really mighty power houses.  Right?

If they were in a powerful conference, like the SEC, they would be winless."

Now, re-read Malik's comment about UT and consider what he was responding to.  How do you like our chances with Malik now?

Any recruit should respond to a aTm recruiter with this "Bama just dropped 59 on that disciplined aTm defense. The same Bama team that dropped only 14 on Arkansas. The same Bama team that struggled with WVU. Hell, Florida put up a better fight than aTm. But you're right though, ISU, NTS and Kansas are not in the same class as Lamar, Rice and SMU" I think UT's chances with Malik are pretty good at this point.

Your argument is sound, but that is not the way it works in recruiting.  Negative talk is, sometimes, enhanced by what is NOT said as well.

Also, remember this - negative recruiting is the last act of a desperate program worried about losing a recruit.

I completely agree with what you're saying and I understand that negative recruiting is a part of the game. I just hope that some of these kids are smart enough to read between the lines. Not for UT's sake, but as a whole. It's kind of like politics and negative ads. I don't know Malik Jefferson and I never will, but I have a 16yr old and I know he is smart enough to see the big picture. From what I've read about this young man is that he has a good head on his shoulders and a solid support system behind him. I'm sure he will make the best decision for him and I believe it won't be based on negative talk. If it is, then he will need a lot of help getting though life, IMO.

I don't think Malik is like most recruits. From what I've seen he's one of the more mature and intelligent HS kids I've seen. I honestly don't think Malik would even internalize "negative recruiting", he's smart enough to reach his own conclusion. Based on other comments I've seen from Malik, I think he genuinely thinks Texas is a good defensive team.

DeShon Elliott was also at TCU last week.

And "Texas commit" no longer listed on his Instagram bio.
