A reporter for another sports site is saying that Notre Dame and Texas have backed out of their series and speculates there's bad blood between the programs due to Patterson's past history dealing with ND.

ND wanted a series with A&M and ND paid Texas $150,000.00 to get out of the 2 games 2021 & 2024 ( I think this is the right years) series. Texas and ND still have the 2  1st series games (Home & Home) with Texas. I think 2015 and 2016 yrs (could be wrong)

So what do you think of this at how Texas stands in the football community.

Notre Dame dropped ASU from the 2014 schedule, while Patterson was still the AD. Patterson expected a call from ND's AD so they could discuss the matter, but only received a call from a PR person. It pissed Patterson off, rightfully so, and he didn't hold back in an interview when discussing ND.  I'll try and find the interview. From what I remember Patterson went to town.

I have no problem with what Patterson did. That was the most attractive home game ASU had in some years and ND backed out of it with zero notification. Not to mention that ND's AD couldn't even give Patterson a call to discuss the matters. I like a guy that doesn't put up with crap like that. If you can't give me the decency of a phone call, you are damn right I'm going to go off on you.

ASU Athletic Director Steve Patterson takes stand vs. Notre Dame, Pitt

By Dan Bickley, columnistazcentral sports Fri Apr 12, 2013 12:03 AM

Arizona State has a national reputation. It’s Party School U. It just reclaimed the No. 1 ranking for student revelry in America. Long live the king.

But the football program no longer fits the sun-baked stereotype. Here, the Sun Devils are all business. And they’re beginning to get the country’s attention.

Start with Notre Dame, which is attempting to drop ASU from its 2014 schedule in a most unprofessional manner.

“The school didn’t have the courtesy to have the athletic director call the athletic director at ASU to discuss it,†ASU Athletic Director Steve Patterson said. “They had their PR guy call (ASU Associate Athletic Director) Mark Brand to give us a message on Friday afternoon while everybody was out of town at the Final Four.

“At least in the little Catholic town I grew up in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the good nuns wouldn’t have thought that was a very appropriate way to honor your word.â€

Those are fighting words, and a prelude to battle. Notre Dame might have its reasons for bailing out of a commitment, as its football team must shuffle its schedule to play five ACC games every season beginning in 2014.

But it’s a little late in the game for pulling out of a signed contract, preventing ASU from replacing Notre Dame with a quality opponent. It would rob ASU of its most attractive home game in years, a game that could galvanize a sleepy marketplace.

It would also be a slap in the face to a football program attempting to find higher ground, and Patterson is not going to let Notre Dame off the hook.

“If you want to talk 3-4 years down the line when someone has the chance to make an adjustment to their schedule, that’s a different thing,†Patterson said. “But when it’s 18 months out, everybody has their season already booked.

“Our position is, we’re playing the game. On October 25th, Notre Dame is going to be here. We’re going to play football.â€

Eventually, this matter will be settled. At the very least, ASU will get a nice chunk of financial restitution and dignity restored. But Patterson is standing up for ASU in a way his predecessor could not, and think of how this changes next season’s showdown in Dallas.

Bad blood will underscore the contest. If Notre Dame dominates, it will appear somewhat justified in dismissing ASU from its schedule, proving the Sun Devils are not a competitive match or a traditional opponent.

If ASU prevails, Notre Dame will look like it is running away from a rising power in the Pac-12.

“Our ticket sales are up pretty dramatically,†Patterson said. “Our donations are up. The media is excited. (Coach) Todd (Graham) has done a great job of getting out in the community and connecting with everybody out there. So I think we’re a program on the way up, and people recognize that nationally.â€

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick was unavailable for comment.

Meanwhile, another external conflict: The University of Pittsburgh recently blocked a freshman running back, Rushel Shell, from transferring to ASU or Arizona.

Shell originally was recruited to Pittsburgh by Graham, who famously left the Panthers after one season. The hard feelings still linger, so much that Pittsburgh apparently is taking out its frustration on a student-athlete.

That’s pig-headed and wrong. Normally, schools don’t block players from transferring out of conference, especially if it’s to another part of the country. But Pittsburgh would rather break protocol than contribute to Graham’s program in Tempe.

Patterson said he can’t comment much on this matter, which is under appeal. He said that he and Graham initially agreed not to contact any Pittsburgh coaches or players for 120 days, and they have fulfilled that commitment.

It makes for interesting drama at ASU, where the football program is taking flight. It’s causing more headaches for Patterson, who just dealt with angry boosters over Sparky’s controversial new look.

When it comes to the mascot, Patterson is willing to bend to the will of his people. But opponents who are playing games away from the field?

They’re discovering a new ASU.

have you somehow forgotten the EMERITUS personal consultant status, bestowed upon DELOSS DODDS as a former TEXAS AD?  it has hereby been reported quite often, that there is a considerable friendship between JACK SWARBRICK - ND AD vs deloss dodds.  so very much so, that deloss "has stated that he even has mentored swarbrick to some degree".  somehow, i really doubt that jack swarbrick would jeopardize his much heralded friendship as per deloss dodds, by outright embarrassing the university of texas, over some silly season report of bad blood between he and steve patterson.

planning collegiate home and home series's, very often takes an extreme amount of planning and logistical detail upon both institutions.  i can very easily understand ND canceling a couple of games as per TEXAS, so that they may include aTm upon their respective schedule, as they may feel that aTm's current success, may indeed add a bit of prestige to their gridiron protocol.  nonetheless, i highly doubt that a man as smart / asute as jack swarbrick... a man that TEXAS was hereby advocating to place in the BIG VII commissioner's seat... would place himself in such a precarious situation with the university of texas.

jack swarbrick, ND AD, is the kind of man, that would certainly take all into account before making such a profound vs shocking gesture.  (i would actually have to see it, before i could even come close to believing it)  should it be a factual circumstance, that steve patterson does indeed harbor a serious grudge as per jack swarbrick... what on earth would make anyone believe that he carry any form of negative relations to the university of texas.  how on earth could he answer to bill powers?  how on earth, could he answer to UT bmd's?  and lastly, how on earth, could he hereby answer to deloss dodds, for whom is a great and personal friend of jack swarbrick.....

Not to sound like an ass but I'm going to need cliffnotes.

The games ND cancelled with Texas, in this case at least, are the 2019 and 2020 games they had scheduled.

I don't give a damn who he is friends with. What he did to ASU was low ball and low class. If he does it to Texas, I'll have no respect for the man.
well this is my whole point bevoblake... i for one, highly doubt that he would dare to perform such a completely disrespectful gesture towards TEXAS!  why would he?  jack swarbrick, is hereby such an astute man, that surely he would know that if such an extreme negative gesture was to ever take place, that there would certainly be immediate repercussions.  not to mention, profoundly negative public relations, along the scale that neither school would care for.  no.  i would never ever believe this could happen!

NO WAY!  of course you do not sound like an ass

but there is only one request... please make certain that he receives plenty of

ND is clearing their schedule for the increased ACC games. They don't want to play too many Power 5 games.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

You don't know Jack about Jack and what kind of man he is. He sure looks like the kind of man that would cover up a rape scandal in which the victim ended up killing herself.

Patterson doesn't need to answer to Deloss Dodds, he took his job. It would be like Charlie Strong having to answer to Mack Brown.

Here's the story about Good Ole Notre Dame and good ole Jack's cover up.
