I really like Swoopes

He still holds onto the ball a little too long, but I can get on board with a QB that doesn't make mistakes. Swoopes is way ahead of what I ever imagined. I honestly haven't seen anything throwing wise that makes me think he can't be our QB. A couple misses here and there are par for the course.

I agree. I think the next two weeks are going to be really tough for him, but a month from now, I think he may be one of the top five QBs in the B12.

He will struggle against OU but IMO he can have a good game against Baylor. Baylor's secondary has been burned quite a few times in this Iowa State game. Baylor is very aggressive on defense. If Swoopes can limit the mistakes there's big plays to be had.

i agree. he shows enough 'stuff' that makes me think he can be good. maybe really good. 

as for his faults, he's two starts in to what effectively is his RS FR year. yeah,...he's gonna make mistakes.

Have you seen Baylor's front seven? Those DEs will have our OL's heads spinning and Swoopes on his back. This defense of Baylor's is not the sieve we have seen in the past. They aren't OU, but they are for real. Watson better have something up his sleeve or we may not score more than 10 until the stadium is nearly empty. I agree if Stoopes can throw deep and hit a target we have a chance for big plays, but that is a big IF, especially if he is running for his life. I suggest screen passes and play action passes, scrap the option, and let Swoopes READ the zone read play. ( he is not reading it....that.... or he is not good at it. )

I've been very pleasantly surprised by Swoopes ability to pass..lots of potential there. But I've been equally surprised by his inability to run. I use the word "run" somewhat loosely. A better word for Swoopes when he takes off is "lumbers'.

Baylor's front 7 may be good, but the best team they've played is Iowa State. I still think Baylor has a questionable D after watching the Iowa Sate game. Their secondary isn't very good and their LB's are bad in coverage.

I think he has the potential to be a great qb for Texas but he has to work on his long ball.  He is inconsistent with it and the offensive coordinator doesnt seem to be helping him out, I mean I really didnt see any short medium or long slant routes.  KU has given everyone else the game plan on playing Texas for now on...load up the box and dare Texas to beat them with the deep ball so it will be interesting to see what we do to work on that which will open up running lanes.

Swoopes is going to have to be more of a pocket passer given his speed, or lack thereof. That means he has to have a pocket. A lot of the problems I see are caused by poor pass protection, and that is not real likely to be improved upon quickly. He should continue to improve with experience, but he desperately needs a pair of good offensive tackles. I just hope he doesn't get hurt because of poor protection.

I think you have to watch Swoopes with an eye on him and an eye on how he is being coached. Every week someone on here hits the nail on the head and writes about how Swoopes was OK in his last game because he didn't try to push too much one way or another. And, if the coaching staff lets him have a little more rein he will be better next week. This is exactly what's been happening. Each week the coaching staff let's him do a little more, like throwing downfield on KU (they knew he could do it and not get hurt by them). My guess is they will pull back on him for the next two games and not let him be demoralized by trying to keep up with the Big Dogs. I think they'll lose the games rather than throw Tyrone to the wolves.

Smart coaching of a young QB if you ask me! They could have easily ruined this kid (and frankly, I thought they would).
