Kansas State can't overcome mistakes vs. Auburn
Last week, I mentioned that if the Kansas State Wildcats were to keep it close, it would look good for the Big 12. I was right, but it would have been sweeter to see the Wildcats beat another overrated SEC team. Kansas State left 16 points on the field, including 3 missed field goals and an Auburn interception off of a deflection in the endzone. For KSU, it was a heart breaking way to lose a game.

The game fits the league's 'close but not quite' theme in nonconference play - as someone on Twitter said: "The Big 12 has the most impressive losses in the early season."

Kansas beats Central Michigan
I didn't expect the Jayhawks to beat Central Michigan but they proved me wrong. It was a close game until the 4th quarter and then the Jayhawks pull away for the victory.

Oklahoma throttles West Virginia in the 2nd half
Most teams can stick with an elite team through the first quarter - some teams manage to hold on through halftime. Most of the time, the elite team is able to pull away in the 3rd and 4th quarter, which is exactly what the Sooners did. West Virginia didn't help it's case by turning the ball over in the second half.

For the rest of the conference, the bigger news is the Sooners found a star in the making in Pflugerville, TX native Samaje Perine (No,Texas did not offer). Perine ran the ball 34 times for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns. With him and Joe Mixon expected to play next season, the Sooners are going to have one hell of a running game in the coming years.

Flanagan's Big 12 Rankings as of Week 4:
1. Oklahoma
2. Baylor
3. Kansas State
4. Oklahoma State
5. TCU
6. West Virginia
7. Texas
8. Iowa State
9. Texas Tech
10. Kansas
Analysis:
As I predicted last week, not much change in the Big 12 rankings. I moved Kansas State up a spot because they have shown more than Oklahoma State. Texas is still behind West Virginia because I have seen better play out of their offense than I have out of Texas so far. It's still early in the season with many more games to come.

Big 12 game of the week: (Time, Network)

Texas Tech at Oklahoma State - Thursday, September 25th, 7pm (CST), ESPN

Why is this game important?
This game is important only because the Oklahoma State Cowboys must beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders badly to keep up the perception that the Big 12 is at least the 2nd best football conference in the country.

Texas Tech put themselves in a tough position by showing they couldn't stop anyone against Arkansas. Oklahoma State is considered to be a top tier Big 12 program, they have to take care of business at home on Thursday night.

Other Big 12 games: (Time, Network)

UTEP at Kansas State (11:00am, FS1)

TCU at SMU (11:00am, CBSSN)

Texas at Kansas (3:00pm, FS1)

Baylor at Iowa State (7:00pm, Fox)

* Note - all times central

It will all sort itself out, but I don't think there are 6 teams in the conference that are better than Texas.

The Longhorn side of me agrees w/you Matt, but until I see it, I can't buy in at 100%.

Nice of them to make us orange I guess

The only team I might consider Texas being better than at this time is TCU and that's still a toss up.

It's got a while to work itself out but right now, they aren't better than middle of the road IMO.
