Very good article and something that has been a problem the last couple years. I continually see multiple offensive lineman blocking down field. I'm honestly surprised more coaches haven't been more critical of this. 

The other rule they have to start enforcing are illegal picks/screens. The first team that comes to mind is Baylor. They literally run some type of WR pick/screen on the outside, almost every other play.

Interesting. I'm surprised we haven't read more of this over the past few years with the rise of Baylor/OKState/aggie. Hopefully the refs will start throwing the flags.

I think it's a problem across all offenses but as the author indicated it's become a bigger problem with more plays called and spread schemes. It's something they need to get fixed regardless. 

They really need to start enforcing the illegal screens/picks. How Baylor gets away with it every game is something that's always made me shake my head.  People wonder how Baylor continuously gets WRs wide open.................

You'd think with 8 officials on the field, one or two of them can spot an ineligible receiver downfield.  But, let's review the rule again:

Ineligible Receiver Downfield

No originally ineligible receiver shall be or have been more than three yards beyond the neutral zone until a legal forward pass that crosses the neutral zone has been thrown (A.R. 7-3-10-I and II).

In the example above, the Bama lineman is clearly downfield 9 yards.  This is not a foul if the pass is caught at or near the LOS within the neutral zone.

The neutral zone is the space between the two lines of scrimmage extended to the sidelines and is the length of the ball.  2-17-1-a
