Took a shot in the 1st quarter.

Great kid but I am worried about his long term health.

Lose QB + most experienced OL = long season

Talk about bad news Monday

Best of luck to those 2 guys

Daje and Turner still suspended. . .Harrison back. . . .

We should have grabbed BYU and the points while we could

Too late now

I would imagine they try to play Swoops the whole game, if he can't do the job then it will be Heard.

We're going to be fine. Silver lining is Swoopes will have the entire week taking QB1 practice reps as opposed to getting inserted into a game in duress. Thoughts and prayers to Ash but everyone needs to realize this is a new group of Longhorns. They are playing with a huge chip on their shoulders and will shock people over the next few weeks.

No juan its not too late. As a matter of fact this is the perfect time to bet. The public will over react to the Ash news and go heavy on BYU. You just let those points rise and then take Texas. The offense was just a short pass run based against UNT and it will probably be about the same against BYU. We get two key players back and a whole week to prepare Swoopes. Just watch, we will be shaky but fine. The value betting wise is going to be on the Texas side so just look for BYU to start becoming heavier favorites and then take Texas

Well, Tyrone's gonna get this meaningful snaps now.

Lose your SR center and starting QB in game 1. Helluva week.

I still believe Texas will win.  Maybe Swoopes will duplicate Taysom Hill vs Texas in 2013.  Maybe it'll be BYU -3 now.  Can't wait for line to switch in BYU's favor.

Look, we have better coaches now.  Not freaking out.

Swoopes offer list was pretty impressive.

Clearly a heavy dose of Brown/Gray, which we were going to see anyways.

Swoopes does have a big arm, so the playfake can work if the run game is working.

Swoopes also opens up interesting possibilities with his bootleg abilities, combined with the big arm.  This is the exciting part to me.  So the question becomes, will Watson scheme it?

There was already pressure on the defense.  Now even more.

If we can't contain Hill better than we did last time, the starter at QB won't matter anyways.

And the bigger question floating in the air though is -- is it time for David to give it up?

Our worst fears realized. Ash injured and key injury on the offensive line. Now the team will have to just get a big chip on its collective shoulder and get after it. Some of the guys are going to have to grow up real fast.

I wonder what Jerrod Heard is thinking right now?  Butterflies?

Don't forget that that the other backup QB was Miles Onyegbule but he blew his knee out in fall camp

ps - FWIW Conner Brewer is running 3rd string at Arizona

Biggest concern is we won't have Daje for BYU. We need that "take it to the house" threat; especially if Swoopes struggles. BYU will have 9 in the box.

It is time for David to hang it up. I will be shocked if the Texas medical staff doesn't say, " You are finished." The boy didn't take a huge hit at all. I know he loves playing, but the medical staff can't leave it up to a 20+ year old who wants to be out there. They need to make this decision.

This, Ash may need to retire.

He had been cleared to return to the team during the offseason, but if it turns out that Ash has suffered another concussion -- and Strong says he's being evaluated by doctors -- you'd have to think his college career could be over.

Texas QB David Ash will not play against BYU

When Texas looks to avenge last year's loss to BYU this weekend it will be without David Ash. Coach Charlie Strong announced Monday that Ash will not be available this week and he will be replaced by Tyrone Swoopes.

"We would never jeopardize a young man's health for the good of the football team," said Strong.

According to Strong, Ash took a hit during the first quarter of Texas' 38-7 win over North Texas, and appeared fine with no ill effects. Texas trainers then received a call from Ash in the middle of the night. Strong said that some of the post-game symptoms Ash exhibited were headaches and dizziness.

Ash has a history of concussions, and missed 10 games last season due to one. He had been cleared to return to the team during the offseason, but if it turns out that Ash has suffered another concussion -- and Strong says he's being evaluated by doctors -- you'd have to think his college career could be over.

As for Ash's replacement, Strong also said Swoopes will be able to "execute the offense," but the sophomore doesn't have a lot of experience. He was a four-star member of Texas' 2013 recruiting class and appeared in five games last season. He only threw for 26 yards but rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
