Chalk Talk - In the Zone

Gotta tell y'all, I really enjoy this feature. Informative, simple to understand and helpful for those not familiar with the technical side of football as well as a refresher for those that may be versed on most things about the game, but it's been a while since they lined up in pads. Thank you for putting the time in on these. They are appreciated.

Funny story. On Wed night the HS had a parent meeting for the football team. Head Coach is now offering Football 101 for wives, girlfriends and sisters next week. As soon as he announced it, I leaned over and told my wife, clear your schedule-you are going. See, my lovely bride of almost 21 years doesn't understand football all that well. I've wanted to send her to the UT Women's Football Clinic but never pulled the trigger. So I sit by her at my son's games, and say a RB breaks a run past the line of scrimmage. She stands up and yells "SACK HIM, SACK HIM, SACK HIM!" I've tried to educate her on the difference between a sack and a tackle, terminology, etc. I've told her to yell "tackle him, get him, kill him, stop him, knock his dick in the dirt, ANYTHING but sack him." All to no avail.

So, she is now going to be attending the Football 101 class next week at the HS. I'm so excited.

There's an old saying with offensive lineman and I believe this applies to D-lineman as well.... "The only people who know how a lineman did in a game are the coach and his mom." .... I played offense but when I was on the bench my mother used to scream "GET HIM! GET HIM! GET HIM!"... classic

Awesome article.

I've never realized just how important the mental aspect is when playing on the offensive line. You're really explaining this well, Coleman. It gives me something else to keep an eye on when watching the games.

It's the same with D-Line! If you're thinking about what to do instead of just doing it then you have already lost.

...btw if you watch the offensive line every play you'll be able to tell if it's a good or bad play before the RB gets to the LOS.

Post-game we will need an unfiltered Chalk Talk breakdown of the Texas - North Texas game as it pertains to line play from Coleman. North Texas has some big boys up front.
