Appearing on The Lowdown with Alex Loeb on 104.9 FM in Austin earlier today, former NFL QB Vince Young said that he would have returned to UT

if he had known the Houston Texans, which took Mario Williams first overall in 2006, weren't going to select him:

"It was very close. The Texans had the No. 1 pick, that was the place I wanted to play at. I wish they would've told me that they weren't picking me because I would've stayed for my senior year. But it didn't happen like that."
Not that going to the Titans was so bad, Young said, since they were the same franchise he had grown up watching.

"Being a kid watching the Oilers all my life, I had the opportunity to play for them, it was a dream come true as well."

Actually, I find it terribly interesting and sad as well.  Did the Texans indicate they might take him?  That would be huge and just another indication how VY has been used in his life.

I call bullshit.

Being picked #3 overall in the NFL Draft still offers plenty of incentive to come out.  VY had nothing left to prove at UT.  I would've loved to see him come back, but it would've been fiscally irresponsible on his part.

he had to declare over 3-months before the actual draft. there was fan pressure to draft vince, but i have no idea whether HOU indicated to VY they'd take him. if so, why didn't they?

either way, he was taken 3rd and given a guaranteed $26 million. somebody needs to use me like that.

I have to call BS on this too. He could have gotten info into what the Texans were going to do.

While coming back to UT would have been fiscally irresponsible, it was no more fiscally irresponsible than VY hiring the inexperienced agent/management team that he did.  Had he gone with more polished/experienced representation, I truly believe the outcome of his NFL career would have been very different.  VY's troubles started long before Jeff Fisher, and I'm not a Fisher fan.

VY could have used one more year of growing up before going into the real world. One year wasn't enough but I can't begin to imagine the people that come out of the woodwork to "help you out". At some point you have to take responsibility and search for some advice from professional services outside you inner circle. I just hope his new gig will help him get out of his financial mess.

How simple do you think it is to get info into what a team is going to do? I suppose Aaron Rodgers, Geno Smith and Drew Brees shouldn't have been too miffed about falling in the draft like they did. They could have just "got the info". Unless you're getting taken, no player is aware of what any team is going to do.
