The San Antonio Raiders?

The SA Express News is reporting Al Davis' son was in town recently meeting with city big-whigs about a possible relocation.

A lot of things to be skeptical about this deal.

They'd need a new stadium sooner rather than later.

The Spurs fought to keep a minor-league soccer team from getting in, can't beleive they'd want competition from the NFL.

This is probably as big a Cowboy town as Dallas. And not sure how either of the 2 current NFL owners in Texas would feel about adding a 3rd.

I'm guessing it''s a move to get the NFL and LA to pony up and they move back to Los Angeles.

But what the hell...something to pass the time with.

I think it would be great to have 3 NFL teams in the state.

And there is a precedent with the Rams leaving Cal for Misery.

But it would cost SA a ton.

Only fitting for the Raiders to return to LA.  Oakland Coliseum is horrible.  How about the A's leaving for SA?  I'm up for that.  Another NFL team possible for relocation are the Jaguars.

The Raiders have always been unpredictable (and are now controlled by the man in the picture below)

And just because the NFL is desperate for a team in LA does not mean it's going to be the Raiders.

SA would have to offer mucho incentives (like StL did), but it is at least possible.

And why limit them to baseball and BBall -- why not all three?  I am not from there but fully support them having all 3 majors.  IMO, it would be tons of fun for the good people of this state.

Calif is dying, imploding.

Texas is alive and vibrant.

We should have at least 3 of everything.

how many times have we witnessed this "i'm gonna pull up my NFL / NBA / MLB team, and move away to another city" stunt!​

these ruthless owners, try very hard to become manipulative / threatening, in order to gain more leverage upon the city that they really want to prosper within.​

i would love for SA to gain a professional sports team.. other than the national champion spurs.  however, i shall not appreciate a money hungry owner resorting to manipulative stunts​

involving any prospective city within our great state.  if we build it.. you had better move it here! ​

otherwise.. pull it up to the can...​

Highly doubt it would be the Raiders though. They belong out west.

You can bet Jerry Jones will be against this. The Cowboys hold a huge market in Central and South Texas. I don't see Jerry willing to part with that, even if temporary.

IMO, though, San Antonio needs it's own team. They would support it and do well. They're already facing some obstacles there, financially. But they may view this as more of a revenue thing than an expense thing.

Not so sure San Antonio can support both the Spurs and a pro football team.  Seems like this discussion is based on the success of the Spurs, and not the economic viability of two pro sports franchises in San Antonio.  The Spurs are unique in pro sports.  That has nothing to do with the viability of pro football there.

Wow...that's Al Davis' kid???

It won't shock me if Henry Cisneros finds a way screw his constituents like he did with the Alamodome.  That was supposed to be the new home for the Vikings, remember?  Back when McCombs owned the team? 

Didn't happen, but a NFL team in San Antonio could potentially hurt UT's attendance.  I don't see it happening, but never say never!

In the wake of Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis' whirlwind tour of San Antonio, sources with knowledge of the visit said Spurs Sports & Entertainment would be against the Raiders, as they are currently structured, relocating to South Texas, Tom Orsborn and Josh Baugh of the San Antonio Express News report.

SS&E is the holding company headed by Peter Holt that owns the Spurs, the WNBA's Stars and the minor league hockey Rampage team. According to sources, it continues to studiously eye a venture into professional soccer.

Davis' San Antonio stops included one to Holt's home, said former Mayor Henry Cisneros, part of a who's-who collection of local civic and business titans that reignited talk of whether San Antonio is a viable NFL market. Although Cisneros described Davis as a “big fan of the Spurs†who wanted to meet Holt to find out “how a winning franchise does it,†sources said business was also discussed.

Holt did not return phone messages requesting an interview, but Spurs shareholder Charlie Amato indicated that SS&E harbors concerns about its long-term financial health should it be forced to compete with another major league franchise for sponsorships, suite sales and ticket sales.

The solution, Amato said, would be for SS&E to have controlling interest in the Raiders or perhaps any other major league franchise that wanted to move to San Antonio.

“I would be more excited about the Oakland Raiders moving to San Antonio if the Spurs ownership group had the possibility of purchasing the team,†said Amato, chairman and co-founder of Southwest Business Corp.

The Raiders in San Antonio is a bad fit.  The bad boys of the NFL owned by Buster Brown cohabiting with the good boys of the NBA, c'mon, they don't even write that kind of comedy for late night.  Incentives?  Incentives!?!?  Let LA give Buster his incentives, or some other city.  

SA diversified during the economic growth of the 80's, and they have done very well.  They have the Spurs, Sea World, Fiesta Texas, and The River Walk.  The only one of those that would benefit from a Raiders move is possibly The River Walk.  I would venture a guess that Sea World and Fiesta Texas would be none too happy with a move of the Raiders, either.

If Al Davis couldn't manage the Raiders worth a flip, what would lead anyone to think Buster could, either?  btw, it's not up to the people of Texas to support the Raiders.  We have absolutely no allegiance to them.  It is up to Buster.

why on earth, would the spurs take upon such a selfish stance?  didn't someone (s) have to present them with a fighting chance at some point?  SA, is definitely large enough, as per both professional teams.  how sad...
