I think it's mostly just kids being young and stupid. That and the internet makes everything so much more available. However the legal system is slow and we must allow the system to do it's due diligence. I don't want to make accusations in either case on either side. I do believe in innocent until proven guilty so I will just let the system do it's job and let it be hammered out in the courts. 

The bigger issue here is the violence towards women. I have no clue why it's become more consistent. I don't believe it's because it's more accepted in society because of the almost always disgust we have towards the male in these cases. And yet it still happens every day. People everywhere need to learn to walk away. Let it go. It's not important to get into a fight or to defend your honor or pride. No one should be hitting anyone. Men hitting men. Men hitting women. Women hitting men. Women hitting women. Just stop and walk away. Violence never solved anything, it just makes it so much worse. End violence in general. However, I don't know if that's even possible that violence can never happen in the world. It's sad really. 

 I  think it has to do with the changing society that we live in. I think that gender roles have changed quite a bit and with that change other things also change. Women were once these creatures that needed men to have lives, they were dependent on us. That dependence and that era meant women acted certain ways and men acted certain ways. Flash forward to today and women do not need men. Women are educated and have money and have lives and they just aren't dependent  on us anymore. They are more confident and driven and empowered than they have ever been. So now women are competition in life... For money, for jobs, for opportunities, etc... They are more equal than they have ever been. I don't mind that at all and I am all for equality... With all of that in mind I think I have seen personally a lot more women that are 100% ok with verbally threatening, being overly aggressive, and even physical with guys. I don't personally know what happened with Mixon but one of my good buddies is an OU(sucks) fan and he read that the event occurred on Mixons bday and the girl punched him in the face first and called him a nigger. By no means is that first hand info, but if that is the case it changes the scenario quite a bit, at least for me.

 Wars(violence) and armed interventions have solved plenty of things throughout history... I don't think Hitler was, at any point, in a negotiating mood. Ideally would life be better if everybody decided to be nonviolent? Yeah, but that is never going to happen. I don't believe anybody should be hitting each other regardless of your sex. But I also don't feel any more sympathy for chick that gets decked in the face due to her actions vs a male getting decked. I think a lot of these stories have more dimensions than we see initially.

 IMHO, My personal feeling is this... We all act so shocked beyond imagine when things like this happen(I am not referencing the Sanders/Meander scenario). Fights, thefts, drugs, etc... Where are these coaches going to find these kids? Are coaches recruiting kids based on their character? I would like to feel that UT has recruited with character in mind for the most part... But Coach Strong is most certainly doing that now. I love every bit of what he is doing... But look at college football as a whole. How many times have you heard an interview with a kid(A COLLEGE STUDENT) and you can't understand a damn thing he's saying? I think CFB for the most part is a machine. Coaches go down to NAME THE CITY and find kids that can run fast jump high and thats it. They don't care about the character of these kids. They just want the next big thing on the field. I believe the SEC is the worst at this practice. I don't agree at all that there are all these support systems set up for these kids. Its more like they are brought in, given a great opportunity, but if it doesn't workout they're gone and somebody will fill their position. The biggest problem in CFB today is that there is only one Charlie Strong(not to say he is the only good moral coach out there). These CFB isn't concerned with raising men, they are concerned with winning and making money... Nothing more. In my opinion the onus falls on the institutions and the programs... You go down the hood and recruit some athletic thugs that have had the benefit of shitty parenting from birth, you better be ready to do some mentoring or its just a matter of time before the kid does what he knows. We need more legit leaders and coaches that care about raising the next generation vs just making money. Until we get that we are going to continue seeing recruits doing illegal and immoral things and we should for damn sure not be surprised. It's a systemic problem from the bottom on up.

 This last opinion may go over about as well as a fart in church... From time to time people EARN a good knuckle sandwich, male and female. I have never hit a woman, ever. But If a woman punched me in the face, I would respond equally. Once you put your hands on a person you better be ready for them to respond how they see fit, male or female. "the changing society that we live in".  to date, i have been pondering in my mind, just why these young men are hereby striking these young females with such force vs conviction.. something akin to a prize match.  from your standpoint, i guess the roles upon society have so changed to the very degree, that men no longer focus upon women as they were hereby brought up too.  and the very same scenario for women towards men.  it has become so very frightening!  and yet, it is indeed altogether profoundly sad.  due to the very point that all involved.. are so very young.

superb!  your discourse upon this topic bevostuntdouble.. is right on the money.  i had the foremost sense that if i just take a opportunity to ask.. then of course some would indeed respond.  this particular post, has allowed for me to recall so very many of my prior postings.. upon so very many of our HS threads regarding our recruits vs players.  i have very often stated that IMO, that today's recruits, are certainly not your "old uncles oldsmobile of recruitment".  today's recruits, are hereby smarter, glamourous, manipulative, scheming vs diabolical, and lastly intimidating.  we have stood by and witnessed some very young recruits, become so very hard up for media attention, vs entertainment vs glory.. that they have allowed for their very recruitment process, to hereby reduce their overall credibility.  some of them have become such media hounds..  that their closest family member's barely recognize them.  not to mention their community peers.  nontheless, i thank you once again, as per your most enlightening contribution to this thread topic.

 YES! Exactly... The roles have changed so much on both sides and with the good comes the bad. It is a sad prospect and will be interesting to see how society continues to evolve/devolve. In a few words I think I'd characterize it as the empowerment of women and the loss of power by men. I don't think people realize how huge a shift that is and where it will potentially take us. Its always interesting to get peoples take on gender roles and equality... I think so very few people realize what equality truly means and instead apply this sort of equality with strings attached type of deal, which undermines the ideal of equality all together.

Have you guys considered that violence and crime from young athletes in reality may not be growing? In all actuality, these crimes and violence that we read about may actually be statistically at a lower rate than they were say 40 and 50 years ago.

I think the uprising of social media may be contributing to the fact that we are hearing more about these issues and thus the outrage and anger from society who are given this info in real time. This is just a theory, but maybe these issues have been going on for a very long time and we just haven't heard about them as much. Maybe the crimes that happened with athletes in the past were even covered up so we never will know.

I don't know, it could just be a crazy conspiracy theory, but I don't buy it that just recently athletes have been resorting to violence, crime and disrespecting women. For all we know, the rate of these issues may actually be down.

 Def a possibility... But what I think happens in places where the kids aren't punished, it sends a signal to the other kids in the area that they can do X Y Z and get away with it. That is something that I do think social media influences. EX: LSU players know they will not be held accountable for any of their actions... And if they are, the punishments will be as soft as possible. To me, that sends the signal to kids all around the country(via social media and conventional media) that if you want to go to a school that will allow you to do whatever you want, LSU is the place for you. If you want to go to a school where you will be held accountable and expected to be a young man, Texas is the place for you. Whereas before the media era there was a bit of unknown as to what would happen to you. Again that is just a theory of my own.
