The Southeastern Conference announced on Tuesday the 2024 SEC Football Legends Class, presented by T-Mobile, including former Texas Longhorn All-American QB Vince Young. These former football standouts will be honored at events surrounding the SEC Football Championship Game in Atlanta this December.
Vince Young, one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in college football history, played for Texas from 2002-05. In 2005, Young had one of the greatest individual seasons, becoming a consensus First Team All-American, runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, and winning the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Awards. That year, he led the Longhorns to a perfect 13-0 record and a BCS National Championship Game victory against USC in the Rose Bowl. Young was the first player in FBS history to surpass 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. With a 30-2 record as a starter, Young set numerous Longhorn records and became the fourth player in FBS history to achieve over 6,000 passing yards and 3,000 rushing yards in a career.
His No. 10 jersey is one of only six retired by Texas, and he’s a member of the Longhorn Hall of Honor, as well as the College Football, Rose Bowl, State of Texas Sports, and Texas High School Football Halls of Fame. Selected third overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2006 NFL Draft, Young played six seasons in the league with the Titans and Philadelphia Eagles. He was named the 2006 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and selected to two Pro Bowls, becoming the first rookie quarterback to play in the game.
The 2024 Football Legends class includes 16 former stars who excelled on the field and helped shape the sport’s rich history at their respective institutions. It is the first to include representatives from the new SEC members, Oklahoma and Texas. This year’s class features All-Americans, All-SEC selections, Academic All-Americans, NFL standouts, and NFL first-round draft picks, representing teams that have won SEC Championships, Super Bowl titles, and are enshrined in various halls of fame.
