Texas fans were eagerly awaiting for Tuesday to roll around which was the projected date junior guard J’Covan Brown would make his decision on whether to play a senior season at Texas or throw his name in the NBA draft hat. A day early, Brown announced that he would skip his senior season with the Longhorns and enter the NBA draft, which takes place on June 23rd.
Brown led the Big XII in scoring this season averaging 20 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game. His return to Texas would have given the Longhorns a punch they needed, especially given the youth of the returning team. His draft declaration should not come a a huge surprise to Texas fans, as the 6’1″ 195 point guard has played 3 season at Texas and has contributed substantially to the success of the program – particularly this year. With the loss of seniors Clint Chapman and Alexis Wangmene fans hoped Brown would return to play another year with an improved but still young Texas team. Most mock drafts have Brown as a mid-late 2nd round draft pick.
