Texas announced Monday morning that SS Adrian Rodriguez would miss time with a hand injury. Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball confirmed the news, adding that Rodriguez was expected to undergo a minor procedure that would sideline him 2-3 weeks.
Rodriguez, who is currently hitting .271 with 18 RBI’s, also missed time last season with a hand injury. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle acknowledged on multiple occasions this season that Rodriguez was playing through some discomfort, specifically at the plate on swings and misses.
The Longhorns, who travel to South Carolina and Texas A&M the next two weekends, will be forced to shuffle around their infield to fill Rodriguez’s spot. An obvious option would be sliding 3B Temo Becerra, who has experience at SS from his time at Stanford, over to his old home on the left side of the infield. If Becerra were to move to SS, 1B Casey Borba could move across the diamond to 3B, where he spent a lot of time in 2025. Josh Livingston, who has seen time at 1B, 3B, and DH this season, could be in line for increased playing time.
Texas is 23-4 overall and 7-2 in SEC play following a 3-game sweep of Oklahoma.
