Josiah Sharma’s flip from Oregon to Texas is a significant win for the Longhorns, adding a crucial piece to their 2025 recruiting class. Sharma, a 3-star prospect from Folsom, California, initially committed to Oregon on June 28th after almost committing to Texas. After visiting Austin for the Texas Pool Bash Party, Sharma made the switch to Texas, committing on Thursday evening.

Ranked as the No. 43 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 42 prospect in California by 247Sports, Sharma’s commitment bolsters Texas’ recruiting class. Standing at an imposing 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, Sharma fits the mold of a classic 3-technique or nose guard, which addresses a critical need for the Longhorns along the interior defensive line. His playing style and physical attributes make him a perfect fit for the role, which Texas has been looking to strengthen.

Sharma has an explosive first step, allowing him to penetrate the offensive line quickly and disrupt plays in the backfield. He plays with great leverage, using his size and strength to control the line of scrimmage effectively. His violent hands are a notable asset, as he uses them to shed blockers and make plays on the ball carrier. Sharma’s relentless motor ensures he remains active and impactful throughout the game, constantly pursuing the ball with intensity.

Sharma’s excellent lateral quickness allows him to move swiftly across the line, making him effective against both the run and the pass. His great closing speed ensures that once he gets past the offensive line, he can quickly reach the ball carrier or quarterback, making impactful plays.

Securing Sharma is a big win for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail. His combination of size, skill, and tenacity fills a significant gap in their defensive lineup for the future. With Sharma on board, the Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class gains a player who can make an immediate impact and help drive the team towards greater success down the road.
