Rick Barnes and The University of Texas have decided to sit starting point guard Myck Kabongo for the Longhorns’ season opener against Fresno State tomorrow in Austin. The NCAA has yet to conclude its investigation into Kabongo’s relationship with LeBron James’ agent Rich Paul and whether or not an NCAA rule was violated as a result of a trip the sophmore point guard took to Ohio earlier in the year.  At the heart of the NCAA’s investigation is whether or not improper benefits were administered to Kabongo in conjunction with the trip.  Former Texas power forward and current Cleveland Cavalier Tristan Thompson has claimed to have paid for Kabongo’s trip and said he was reimbursed by Kabongo’s brother for all expenditures related to the trip.

Last season Kabongo averaged 30.6 minutes, 5.2 assists and 9.6 points per game.  On March 26th Kabongo relieved Texas fans when he announced on the Longhorn Network that he would return to Texas for his sophmore season.  While the NCAA continues to sift through the details, freshman Javan Felix will most likely see playing time in Kabongo’s absence on the court.  It is unclear how long the NCAA investigation will take but Texas jumps right back on the court on Monday, November 12th to face Coppin State at the Erwin Center.
