The Texas Longhorns added to their 2024 recruiting class on Sunday with the flip-commitment of Marrero, Louisiana defensive back Wardell Mack. Mack took his official visit to Austin this summer and the crystal ball predictions indicated with moderate certainty Texas would receive his pledge, but he announced his commitment to Billy Napier and the Florida Gators on August 14th. Fast forward three months and he finds himself a member of Steve Sarkisian’s 2024 class of recruits.
Mack (5-11, 170 lbs.) is the 4th best player in the state of Louisiana, the 12th best cornerback in the country and the 129th best player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings. He is a versatile athlete that adds significant value for the Longhorns in the secondary or on special teams.
He becomes the 20th committment in the 2024 Texas recruiting class and joins Aeryn Hampton (Daingerfield, TX), Santana Wilson (Scottsdale, AZ) and Jordon Johnson-Rubell (Bradenton, FL) as defensive back commitments.
With Mack’s commitment, the Longhorns move to No. 9 in the recruiting class team rankings, up four spots from their previous ranking of 13.
