Larry Porter strikes again.
Texas added #23 to the 2014 recruiting class as Newton High School’s all-purpose back Kevin Shorter committed to the Longhorns early Saturday.

Just weeks ago Shorter appeared to have a high interest in playing at Arkansas and potentially Texas A&M. It all changed after Shorter attended the inaugural “Texas Stampede” recruiting event in late July. He had an opportunity to get to know the coaching staff and program better and left Austin feeling good about how he could contribute to the Longhorns’ future success.
Shorter joins Duke Catalon and D’Onta Foreman as running back recruits in the class but the speedster is unique because of his ability to play both sides of the ball. Simply put, Shorter fits the need on both offense and defense but the Longhorns recruited him as a running back. He needs to add a little weight but this should be considered a major pickup for Mack Brown
As a junior last season he rushed 151 times for 1,810 yards and 31 touchdowns and logged 58 tackles on defense. The 6’0 185 lb Shorter is regarded as a 3-star prospect and is listed at #48 on the Lone Star Recruiting Top 100.
Shorter had offers from Texas A&M, Baylor, Florida State, UCLA, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State and Clemson as well as a handful of other programs.
