The last time the Texas Longhorns (7-6) ended a season with a winning record was in 2013, when Mack Brown was head coach on the 40 Acres. Current Head Coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns manufactured a much-needed win against the Missouri Tigers (7-6), 33-16, in the Texas Bowl on Wednesday evening in Houston to improve to 7-6 on the season.

With a depleted roster that suffered losses to injury, suspensions and NFL Draft-related attrition, Texas rode a nasty defense and an efficient offense in the upset over a Missouri team that had won 6-straight prior to tonight’s matchup.

Starting quarterback Shane Buechele finished the game 11/15 with 115 passing yards, including a touchdown pass to Daniel Young on the opening drive of the game.  Sam Ehlinger played the backup role this evening, passing for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Freshman running back Daniel Young led the Longhorns in rushing and receiving, with 48 yards on 12 carries and 64 yards on 3 receptions, respectively.

Ray Guy Award winning punter Michael Dickson once again showed his value, punting 11 times for a net of 452 yards.  10 of Dickson’s punts landed inside the Missouri 20 yard line.

Missouri quarterback Drew Lock finished 18/34 for 269 yards and one touchdown and one interception.

The Longhorns will begin their 2018 season against the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, September 1st in Maryland.
