No. 5 Texas Football (11-2, 7-1 SEC) is set to face off against No. 12 Clemson (10-3, 7-1 ACC) in the first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff. The game kicks off at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. This marks Texas’ second consecutive appearance in the College Football Playoff. Last year, the Longhorns earned the No. 3 seed and made it to the semifinals, where they faced the No. 2 Washington Huskies at the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Texas has been a fixture in the top 10 of the CFP rankings for 11 straight weeks, dating back to Oct. 31, 2023. They debuted at No. 5 in this season’s first CFP rankings on Nov. 5, which was their highest-ever initial ranking. The Longhorns have been in the top 25 for the last 15 rankings and have appeared 27 times overall, with their highest ranking being No. 2. As of Dec. 8, Texas is ranked No. 4 in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls.
The Dec. 21 game will be the first-ever meeting between Texas and Clemson. The winner of this first-round matchup will advance to the CFP Quarterfinal at theChick-fil-A Peach Bowl, where they will face the Big 12 Champion and No. 4 seed Arizona State Sun Devils at Noon CT on Jan. 1, 2025, in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. This game will be broadcast on an ABC/ESPN platform.
