Junior guard Courtney Ramey and true freshman forward Greg Brown each scored a team high 17 points as the Texas Longhorns (6-1, 0-0 Big 12) defeated the Sam Houston State Bearkats (3-5, 0-0 Southland) at the Frank Erwin Center on Wednesday evening. Texas never trailed in the contest and at one point held a 27 point lead (65-38 at the 11:17 mark in the second half) before ultimately winning 79-63.
The Longhorns shot 42.9% from the floor compared to the Bearkats’ 35.2%.
Texas struggled from behind the arc, shooting 10-31 (32.3%) while Sam Houston State went 8-16, shooting 50% from three point range.
Greg Brown also grabbed 10 rebounds notching the only double-double of the game for either team. Andrew Jones had 13 points, 2 steals and 2 assists.
Sam Houston State’s Zach Nutall led all scorers with 23 points.
The win gave Texas their seventh straight over the Bearkats and sixth overall on the season.
The Longhorns were scheduled to open Big 12 play last weekend against Baylor, but were unable to due to COVID-19 issues on the Baylor side. Instead, Texas will host Oklahoma State on Sunday in their first Big 12 matchup this season,
