After a big win over Rice the night before, Texas State (27-7) faced a cohesive and very dominant #5 Texas Longhorn (22-4) team that swept them in three sets (25-14, 25-17, 25-14) for the match.  It was freshman outside hitter Logan Eggleston’s (Brentwood, Tennessee) intensity that continued to lead her team to success in the tournament with a total of 16 kills and a .609 hitting percentage for the match.

Setting the tone for the evening, the Longhorns conquered a quick win over the Bobcats in the first set reaching.500 hitting percentage and 14 kills while Texas State was held to .143 and ten kills.  Eggleston earned four kills as did her teammate, senior outside hitter Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani (Los Angeles, California).

While Eggleston was still carrying her team in the second set with six kills helping Texas reach a high .524 hitting percentage, junior outside hitter Micaya White’s (Frisco) typical presence started to reveal itself.  After being held to only two kills in the first set, the Big 12 Player of the Year earned five kills and by match point contributed a total of 11 to the win.

In the final set, Big 12 Freshman Player of the Year Eggleston notched another six kills, freshman setter Jhenna Gabriel (Honolulu, Hawaii) who started and remained in the setter position for the match after being pulled the night before racked up 35 total assists, and 12 critical digs from freshman libero Sydney Petersen (Dike, Iowa).

The highly energized Longhorns will have a short reprieve as they wait to confront their next tourney opponent – the winner advancing out of Saturday’s Michigan vs. Pittsburgh match.
