Write ups on Elite 11 invitee Shane Buechele

Sorry to interupt the BBQ, grab ass and Patterson bashing with some actual football info but wanted to share write ups from this weekend's Elite 11 (actually 18. . .I guess they went to match class at a Big10 school) semi Finals.

Saturday's competition was an overall statement for Shane Buechele. Every passing drill, he aced. Nearly every target assigned, he drilled it—multiple times. Buechele was a man on a mission Saturday, and he carried that assassin's attitude and consistency over to Sunday's seven-on-seven drills.

Buechele, a Texas commit, is the kind of player who will manage a game with minimal mistakes. He made the right decisions throughout seven-on-sevens, whether it was connecting with a checkdown or showcasing a gunslinger's mentality and going for the deep ball. He may not be the biggest quarterback, but it was evident that he's one of the hungriest.

Stumpf's comments

"I think he's a very similar kid in terms of makeup to BMac [brandon McIlwain]. He's poised, mature, steady-handed and almost a flatliner in terms of how nothing phases or overwhelms him. And he's a pure passer with a clean stroke. He's quick in everything he does—setup, release. There's a lot of Colt McCoy is his game."

Thirty of the nation's top quarterbacks were in Los Angeles this past weekend for the inaugural Elite 11 Semifinals. Eight of the signal-callers had already punched their tickets to the Elite 11 Finals, to be held July 5-10 at Nike Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, but that number ballooned to 12 following the three-day semifinals.

Michigan State quarterback commit Messiah deWeaver was the first to receive the good news, following a terrific Saturday morning performance. His selection was followed by three top-100 prospects, in Mississippi commit Shea Patterson, Stanford commit K.J. Costello and South Carolina commit Brandon Mcllwain, who was also named the event's overall MVP.

That quartet joins a Finals group that already featured LSU commit Feleipe Franks, Texas Tech commit Jeff Duffey, Georgia commit Jacob Eason, Tennessee commit Jarrett Guarantano, Maryland commit Dwayne Haskins, JR., Florida State commit Malik Henry and uncommitted prospects Jawon Pass and Dillon Sterling-Cole.

The selections for the Elite 11 Finals are not complete yet, as a total of 18 quarterbacks will be selected for the event. Though, selecting a final six from the remaining semifinal competitors will likely be a difficult task. In addition to the quarterbacks who'd already earned invitations, it was easy to be impressed by the showings from both Michigan commit Brandon Peters and Texas commit Shane Buechele.
