Big Mike pointed out recently the big three mens programs have a combined winning/losing record of 44-52 the last two seasons.
@WesCrocket on Twitter asked the question, do we think Tyrone Swoopes will redshirt? Being the smart ass that I am, I answered, "If winning mattered any more at UT, Swoopes would play..but seeing it doesn't I see RS and SOS again this season"
It was meant as a joke, but it quickly got me thinking, is it's also true? I am not sure when my university turned into a business, and the people who run the place turned into pimps who just want to see the money, but it has.
This from Forbes:
1. University of Texas Longhorns
Current Value: $129 million
Two-Year Change in Value: 8%
Football Profit: $71 million
Conference: Big 12
Head Coach: Mack Brown
Texas football generated $65 million for its athletic department, $15 million more than any other school. That athletic value helped offset the fact that the Longhorns didn't make a bowl game last season.(obviously a old post, but you get the point?
Notre Dame was second, but managed to get lucky and avoid another dismal season. Worst of course is Penn State who finished third. Turns out they were protecting the cash cow instead of protecting the children who were being abused on their campus.
It's hard to argue with winning being second to making money when you see these three schools as the top three. It gives cover to the other underperforming programs of basketball and baseball.
Until the alumni quit giving to the same degree, and fans quit showing up a hundred thousand at a time, nothing will ever change. It is now laughable when I see someone criticize DeLoss Dodds, when you know the madams running the whore house are making money.
Cha Ching may replace Hook Em Horns?
