Whoever takes over for Saban will have an insane cupboard.

IF...IF Saban leaves Alabama for Texas, whoever takes over (Smart, etc.) will have the fullest cupboard maybe in history. With the addition of De'Shawn Hand today, an insane recruiting class just got more ridiculous. Add to that, previous classes, several of which were ranked #1, the new coach can just about use the old Guy Lewis method of rolling the ball out and saying, "go get 'em, fellas." Not saying that coaching doesn't matter, of course it does. But it sure will be nice for the new guy. If I were Saban, I would sure think long and hard about leaving such talent behind. However, as the saying goes, 'if momma ain't happy, nobody's happy', then all bets are off.

The talent he is stacking up at Bama is one of if not the main reason I just don't see Saban coming to Texas. The recruiting and of course the current level of success would be extremely hard to walk away from.

He would own Texas and I would think it would be easier to recruit nationally from Austin than it is Tuscaloosa. He would attract Ca, Ohio, Pa, and some of La, Fla, Tn, and Carolina kids here...something Mack never did.

5* machine and what's better, 5* Coaching/Development.

Can we trade Mack plus a coach or two to Bama for Saban. How much would Mack screw that up? Lol

Never say "never."

Shiro Davis (LA) Chris Sims (Pa), Jordan Hicks (OH), Bo Scaife (CO), Lyle and Austin Sendlein (AZ), Kasey Studdard (CO) the Pittman brothers (LA), Phillip Geiger (LA), Blaine Irby (CA) and Lamar Houston (CO), among others, say, "Hi."

But I understand your sentiment. Shiro, Cobbs and now departed Conner Brewer come to mind as latest national-level HS recruits. But there should be more. Saban would change the perception nationally no doubt more than Mack did when he brought in Simms, who was the bluest of the blues in his day.

Thing is Saban's stacking national AAs like cordwood.

Would be fun to see what he'd put together skimming the cream from Texas AND the rest of the union.

IF he actually comes to Austin.

Agreed, and that is a big IF.

12 in 15 years is not what I would call a National haul. We have all read about recruits wanting to hear from UT over the years...I agree a lot them just wanted to pad their offer list. Shame is, we'll never know how many truly wanted to hear from Texas.

Mack depended way too much on Texas HS for his recruits and often closed the class out after their Jr years. The players knew they had a home and started developing the "entitlement" mentality, knowing they didn't have to bust their ass their Sr years because 'ol Mack would never pull their offers.

Laziness/softness set in to infect them for 4 years. They were immune to development and just became "fat cats".
