Recap of Week 6:

The Big 12 is back (Again)

Throughout the offseason, it seemed everyone in the national media was talking about how there were only two good teams in the Big 12 and that it was on par with the ACC. Funny story about that...there are 5 Big 12 teams ranked in the top 17 of the AP poll. The AP poll redeemed themselves for at least this week.

TCU is back to relevancy

TCU played decent football, but given their bad records the first 2 seasons in the Big 12, people were skeptical of the program. That skepticism was lifted on Saturday. A big win for the TCU faithful who might have thought that moving to the Big 12 was a wrong move competitively.

Oklahoma State struggles early (again) but beats Iowa State

Apparantly Oklahoma State hasn't gotten the memo that to be taken seriously in college football, you have to start strong. For the 2nd game in a row, Oklahoma State let an inferior opponent stick around and then started to assert themselves late in the game. Looking ahead at the schedule, the Texas game in Stillwater could be interesting if this trend for the Cowboys continues.

Flanagan's Big 12 Rankings for Week 7

1. Baylor
2. Oklahoma
3. TCU
4. Kansas State
5. Oklahoma State
6. West Virginia
7. Texas
8. Texas Tech
9. Iowa State
10. Kansas

TCU moves up to third on the list this week. So why would I put TCU below Oklahoma even though they just beat the Sooners? Simple - the Sooners are the better overall team. Oklahoma always has those WTF losses every year. This is likely it for the year. I expect Oklahoma to win out or lose to Baylor. TCU on the other hand may still lose 2-3 more games. They are still in the 2nd tier of Big 12 teams until they prove otherwise. The bottom half of the conference hasn't changed and likely won't for the rest of the season.

Big 12 game of the week:

TCU at Baylor (2:30pm CST, ABC/ESPN 2)

No break for the Horned Frogs as they travel to Waco for a huge game against the Baylor Bears. This should be a very good game that gets the Big 12 more exposure. Unfortunately, it's during the Auburn-Mississippi State game. We will learn more about the two teams and the perception of the Big 12. Should be a great game.

Other Big 12 games

Oklahoma v. Texas (11:00am CST, ABC)

West Virginia at Texas Tech (11:00am CST, FS1)

Toledo at Iowa State (2:30pm CST, IAST)

Oklahoma State at Kansas (3:00pm CST, FS1)

Good article.

I have to disagree with putting OU over TCU, especially immediately after the Frogs beat them. It's hard to say OU has a better overall team when they just got beat.

Well I disagree with your disagreement. I look at it in terms of "Who could compete with the top tiers of other conferences?" Right now, I would trust OU over TCU. If TCU wins this weekend in Waco, I will change my mind.

I'm calling TCU in the playoffs. The Frogs have to lose TWICE for OU to creep above them. A lot of football to play but Gary Patterson has his team playing some really good football.

TCU has games At WVU, vs KSU & At UT in the month of November. That makes this weekend's game in Waco even more important to them.
