I thought the move by West Virginia was a done deal? Turns out they have a game with Florida State they are attempting to cancel and are suing, being countered sued by the Big East.

The Mountaineers want out of the Big East and the Big East is wanting to keep them for another year. What is as stake is millions of dollars. If WV exits, the Big East is down to 7 football playing schools and they lose their television contract. The exact same scenario will happen to the Big 12 if WV is not allowed to leave.

There is a court date set for April and the court has asked them to mediate their differences before that date. Things are getting nasty and there appears to be little movement on either side.

This is far from over and one of the conferences is going to lose millions.

The Big East is basically screwed if West Virginia leaves immediately and participates in the Big 12 next year. Boise State, UH, SMU, UCF and SDSU do not join until 2013. Simply put, the Big East does not have enough teams to do anything with. The Big 12 will hep pay the penalty/transition fees and West Virginia will owe Florida State 500K for bowing out of the game. FSU will use that revenue to try and get a worth opponent to take WVU's place.

The move will play out and WVU will be a Big XII member next season. The lawsuits are unfortunatley a necessary part of this kind of thing. The Big East is quickly becoming extinct though.

Hope you guys are right but when judges get involved there is not a certain outcome.

Not sure how long it will drag on. The defections of TCU, Syracuse and Pitt hurt the BE bad. They just added Memphis this week but they will not play until 2013. BE might have only a handful of teams next season..... The price to pay when you have a crap conference (with a freakin' automatic BCS bid to boot!).

Update: Read this at BON..

From the article:

"West Virginia is close to reaching a settlement with the Big East.

The Mountaineers will pay the conference an $11 million cash settlement to join the Big 12 for the upcoming football season, a source with knowledge of the situation told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The settlement is expected to bring to an end more than three months of litigation between the school and the conference since the Mountaineers announced in late October that it planned to join the Big 12 in time for the 2012 football season."

11 mil is not too bad. The Big XII will most likely be helping pay that tab. No amount of money is "too much" to get outta that garbage conference!

REding now that the settlement will be almost 20 million. That is - assuming The BE can find a replacement for WVU next season.

I am one who is not too excited about the Mountaineers joining the Big XII. They are a mediocre program that hasn't done much except when they had Slaton and White. B-O-R-I-N-G.

WVU played in a BCS bowl game this season..something our Longhorns didn't do..Plus look at the alternatives..If no WV the teams will have to play a home and home with some teams. That would suck..

The update I did was out of an article today. No way they have to pay 20 mil..at least I don't think so but either amound the Big 12 will pony up some of the money..and getting a team to replace them against Fla St is no problem..North Texas La Tech both are open on that date..

After the 70-33 ass wrangling West Virginia put on Clemson, I was glad to open the Big XII doors to the Mountaineers! Plus I think their unis are cool. Mizzou and the Shaggies are gone and WVU is a great addition!

No one and I mean no one wants to play WVU at their house. They are going to be a force and along with TCU the Big 12 just got a lot harder.

Well I stand corrected. I just heard the Big East and WVU have reached verbal agreement and the price for the move is indeed $20..Just a few t's to cross and a couple of i's to dot.

Reports: #WVU to officially exit the Big East today, become official member of #Big12 for 2012-13 season.

So that leaves which high school teams as new members of the Big East?

The Big East is playing frank & beans games. They will be onsolete in a metter of a handful of years. After the TCU debacle, West Virginia looks like an Eagle Scout. Welcome aboard West Virginia, no matter how $hitty your academics might be!
