Thoughts/Notes on Keaontay Ingram

I made my way over to AT&T stadium this morning to watch Keaontay Ingram in action during the 4A D1 State Championship. I came away very impressed with the Texas RB commit.

Ingram finished the game with 162 yards and 3 touchdowns. His vision and burst through the hole is what makes him so special. He showed great patience in letting blocks develop and possesses great speed in the open field, as evidenced by his 3rd touchdown, a 65 yard run. Carthage threw the ball a little bit more than I thought they would, but Ingram repeatedly showed a willingness to take on rushers and pass protect. I do not mean this in a disrespectful way towards the current RB’s on campus, but Ingram will far and away be the most talented back on the roster the minute he steps foot in Austin.

Now this brings us to the question of where Ingram’s recruitment stands. As was stated after the game by the broadcast team on FSSW and confirmed by the media, Ingram will not sign early. Does that mean he will be listening to other schools? Maybe a little, but we still feel very good about Ingram inking with Texas in February. Stan Drayton and Tom Herman told Ingram during their In-Home visit that he did not have to sign early. Ingram knows the depth chart situation and the opportunity for playing time.

Seeing Ingram in person only re-affirmed my initial thoughts of how special of a player he may be.

To put in perspective just how loaded Carthage is, Ingram did not even win offensive MVP of the title game. QB Gunner Capps took home that honor by throwing for throwing for 365 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The kid said today he wanted to sign with his teammates in February and not be a lone distraction right before a state title matchup. I feel like many are reaching for reasons to worry with Ingram when he has yet to give a reason to worry.
That’s a class act there. He gonna be a star with that attitude

Have to respect that.  Good for him and good for his team.  That sounds like a team guy.  That coach at Carthage has a great program and it sounds like he is teaching his kids right.
