Summer Update

[Donald Boyles]

I thought that this would be a good time to put as I am headed back inside the classroom where my students will be awaiting me this Thursday.

With summer baseball winding down, several Longhorn Players and Future Longhorns have had a very successful summer.

Pitchers, Blake Goins, Morgan Cooper, & Ty Culbreth along with SS Bret Boswell led their summer team, Santa Barbara Foresters to the NBC World Series, where they won the Championship, their 5th in the last 9 years

This was the 80th year of the NBC World Series which takes place in Wichita, Kansas. NBC World Series bring in 16 teams from across the country to partake in this event.

In 6 games durung the NBC World Series, Bret Boswell batted .444 and where he had 2 doubles in the championship game. RHP Morgan Cooper went 7 innings in one of the games earlier this week.

C.J. Hinojosa is playing for the Harwich Mariners where they have made the final Four in the Cape Cod League playoffs. the Mariner are matched up with Y-D Red Sox where game one of best of three with game 2  tonight.

Also, up in the Cape Cod league, are Tres Barrera and LHP Travis Duke playing for Cotuit Kettleers where they are also in the Final Four and will be playing Falmouth in a best of three-Game 2 Today at 5:30-4:30 CST.

Soon to be Freshman, RHP Kyle Johnston was playing for the DBAT-Gallegos team in the Connie Mack World Series. The Connie Mack World Series takes place in Farmington, New Mexico where they bring in 10 select teams that are affiliated with the AABC- American Amateur Baseball Congress. This was the 50th year of the CMWS.

In game 18 of the CMWS, RHP Kyle Johnston went up against the Midland Redskins(Ohio), a very talented team in the select world. Johnston went 6 2/3 to earn the win where he 95 on the gun on back to back pitches late in the game.

Earlier this summer Johnston and his High School Team, Flower Mound, won the 5A State Championship,

Back in July, Johnston has the opportunity to pitch in his future home ..

Future Longhorn RHP Mason Thompson from Round Rock High School, class of '16, also had a great summer as he was named the MVP of the Perfect Game WWBA 16U National Championship.

This is my shot of him, not on the pitching mound, but showing his passion for the game..

Wish I could do this to my classroom...

This is Coach Kary Sears, graduated from Texas in '05..I believe, coaches and teaches in Mount Pleasant. Assistant Baseball and Football Coach

Had a great summer, saw a ton of players, ton of games..

The '15-16 Class is just about wrapped up.. kids that will be signing this November.

the '16-'17 class is being heavily evaluated by Skip and Nicholson, amazing the schedule that these two have kept this summer.

This is who has committed to Texas for this class-'16-'17

RHP Mason Thompson
SS Austin McNicholas
SS Andres Sosa
OF Conner Capel

Players that are being evaulated-some are based on my own assumption, others is based on what I have seen personally;

One of the players that I have seen quite a bit this summer is a RHP from Lake Travis High School, Tate Sandford. Did not pitched that much last year-Sophomore Year- due to some arm issues. His arm issues have been corrected and his developing into a very nice RHP. With Dennis Cook as the pitching Coach out at Lake Travis, Sandford will be able to get some much needed instructions, as did Current Freshman Longhorn Pitcher Connor Mayes. Sandford is sitting at about 87-89 right now and his control and stamina is improving.

OF Sammy Blair from Navasota High School could be your table setter, no he is not your big bat type of player.. think along the lines of Mark Payton with better speed. Seen him at 2 events and know that he is being evaluated..

A catcher that has really open up my eyes is a young man from Magnolia High School by the name of Jaxx Groshans. Groshans is your prototypical dirtbagger with a catchers attitude. The more that I've studied him... the more that I like from what I've seen.

Another OF that is being/or has been evaluated is Jaccob Parrot from Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas. He is on my list to go an see..Hopefully this fall.

RHP Forrest Whitley(1st Name Matches Him), is 6-7 230LBs. goes to Alamo Heights High School and while speaking to his Select Team Coach-he and I always get into going different directions-Especially when speaking about select ball in Texas. He tells me that he is the real deal.

2 other players that are more multipositional(is that a Word?) are RHP/1st Landon Miner-Saw him during playoffs last May(Bryan High School) and then again this summer. Also, keep a watch on Dylan Bohnert, RHP/3rd also is a DE for Anderson Shiro High School. He looks to be a grown man already..

The Current team is wrapping up there summer baseball assignments, Morgan Cooper, Blake Goins, Bret Boswell-Santa Barbara Foresters are down to the Semi Finals in the NBC World Series.

CJ Hinojosa and the Harwhich Mariners are in the Cape Cod League.

I have the roster still at 38 and must be trimmed to 35 by the time spring semester begins. Look for 3 walk ons to walk on...

Edit:

Already compiling a list of players that will be Sophmores this year-'17-'18, I also have a list of players for the '18-'19 school year..

So much good information. Thank you, Don.

I've heard a lot of people speak highly of McNicholas. I've got my eyes on him, for sure.

He's good people.. plus he plays at Akins High School... Which is tough on Austin..

But, he plays on some really good Select Teams..

My next Tournament is not until the end of September.. The WWBA South Qualifier.. In Tomball, Texas and surounding communities..

Projected starting rotation next season?

Friday- Parker French

Saturday- Morgan Cooper

Sunday- Chad Hollingsworth

Mid-Week, watch for either one of these Freshman, Connor Mayes, Tyler Schimpf, Parker Joe Robinson..

Closer Role-- My Pick.. RHP Kyle Johnston..

This should leave LHP Travis Duke as the bridge to Johnston..
