If I may share some good news on the recruiting front, non-UT related.

McMurry called earlier this week and invited my son down for an official visit. This will happen on the weekend of the 25th. They made it sound as though an offer is forthcoming. They said this visit, being official, is on the school's dime and they will give him the usual red carpet treatment.

Meanwhile, Navarro has stepped into the picture. Their HC stopped by Lewisville HS this week, had our HC call Brandon in so they could talk. He had Brandon doing deep snaps, using a digital stop watch to time his snaps. Brandon said he really didn't say anything about where we go from here, just said he was impressed with his snaps and film and would be in touch.

So we now find ourselves discussing plans of action and what if's. Navarro is a nice springboard and would spell immediate playing time. McMurry would be a 4-yr home, probably waiting a year before meaningful playing time. However, McMurry's deepsnapper did just graduate.

A month ago, Brandon was a little discouraged that things weren't happening. I told him I had a feeling it would start happing in January as coaches get a better idea of who's coming and who isn't.

I couldn't be prouder, am just enjoying him enjoying it all. He's a pretty excited guy right now.

Congratulations!

Steer him to Navarro if he has > D2 aspirations. Good deep-snappers are in demand!

Very cool to be a parent with a kiddo going through the process. keep the updates coming!

Congrats to you and your son! Hope to hear some more exciting news about his decision later on.

Have you been to Abilene or McMurry? It's not one of the most scenic schools around

Yea, I've been there numerous times. I'm a landscaper so I was pretty harsh in my thoughts when I saw it the first time.

But it's an intimately close school that has a small student body. I look at it like his opportunities for trouble will be fewer and he'll get good access to his profs.

I'm just elated that he'll be able to play college ball of any kind and experience this, even if on a smaller scale. Abilene or not, we consider ourselves fortunate to be in this position.

McMurry out of Abeline? I visited there when I was a junior. I couldn't dig the small town lifestyle coming from Spring/Houston. When I was there, some players took me out to the only club in town. On Friday night it was hip hop night, on saturday it was country. I don't know how much has changed at McMurry since then. Their field had pot holes in it that ankle tape and braces wouldn't hold up againt. I had heard they got new turf and a new stadium but I'm not sure. I'm glad I decided against it and chased baseball. They didn't win a single game the year after I graduated high school. They did have a bad ass Tribe VHS tape they showed me and sent me home with. They were the Indians then and I think they changed their name. The head coach at the time didn't want me to be a dual-sport athlete either, he was kind of a prick.

Anyway, congrats to your son... recruiting is one of the best parts of the football experience. If not much has changed on the up and up for McM, I'd steer him toward Navarro if they offer.

congrats!

I was just asking because it's a shock to many first time people. I am from Austin, but I kind of like it out here now because there is almost zero traffic.

When McMurry was D3, their football field had holes all over it and was pretty sad. Since Hal Mumme came and they moved up to D2, I believe it's been improved.

Huge culture shock for your son. Wish he could get a shot at ACU for a number of reasons.

The new football stadium is not complete, but the field/turf is. They're still working on the visitor side bleachers I believe.

Hal Mumme has been the HC there for the past few years. Needless to say, they have been winning and doing very well. Mumme has taken a job on June Jones staff as the OC for SMU starting this year.

Mumme's OC at McMurry, Mason Miller, is the new HC. He's a disciple of Mumme's so I expect success will carry on. He's a strong recruiter and offensive minded coach.

Their mascot was the "Indians" until they were sued and made to change it. At first, they refused to have a mascot in protest of the decision. Later, they employed the name "War Hawks" as their mascot and that's where it is today.

McMurry's founder ministered to the Indians of West Texas, they were a focus of his and brought about the original nickname in their honor. McMurry is a Methodist school.

Most awesome SHL! I know you are a proud pappa! Tell your boy to enjoy the ride and take everything in!
