Shawn Robinson to TCU

I say you don't panic. You stay in contact with him. Who knows how the season plays out? And you flip him in the fall/winter.

For the moment, it's great momentum for TCU. . . . for the moment.

Its strange how much the culture has changed in just a few years.

For those that say "dont worry we can flip him, plenty of time, junior early commits are meaningless"  I counter "Better to be in front and keep them than relying on flips".

The success of TCU/Baylor and even the ags with SEC bias has truly hurt the horns recruiting.  Who can blame these kids for not choosing our horns after watching Swoopes with 7 TO's vs TCU and a pathetic 25 yards vs Arkansas?

TCU should have a better year with the returning starters and if Swoopes, Watson, and Wickline cant fix the issues next year I doubt this kid flips.

The Guyer QB's have been and are outstanding. Their placement almost appears strategic, does it not? Good coaching and maximizing the potential of each to start.

DMAC, cheer up. Last I looked, Strong had a plethora of his players drafted. You need a vacation-somewhere with bright sun and no clouds. Give him at least 2 years, ok?

Hook 'em!

Your thoughts?

I agree java.  Mohammes = TT, Stidham = Baylor, Heard = UT.

Makes sense.

I know.  I Love Strong.  He needs 3-4 years.  I am more concerned with the Watson/Wickline combination as OC's and obvious problems at OL and QB.

The lack recruiting this year is disappointing thus far.

It's a given that o-line strength is based on development. I don't think we can base anything on last years oline, with the exception that Strong does mean business. He wants players with goals, integrity, and work ethic. Give him that, and he will give you an opportunity to play in The League and get a degree.

They did a remarkable job last year after losing Ash and Espy in the first game & our two starting tackles before the season ever started. Hats off to the coaches and the team for pulling together and putting together a season that got most seniors their shot in The League, Big Mal a first round spot, and Texas bowl practices.

Edit: I haven't primal d. He will be a beast.

I agree the coaches did the best they could with what they had after Ash and Espinoza injuries.  I still remember the OL and spread offenses of OSU with Wickline.  I was excited to hear we got him when CS was hired.  Now my perceived take on Wickline is he kind of an old school hardass.  Maybe that rubs some of the top tier OL recruits the wrong way.  Picking are slim this year in state.   Losing out on Owens this year and Weathersby last year hurts.  In this day and age of "entitlement" it seems much more difficult to find kids willing to compete.  I know Wick is a great developer, as far as a recruiter im very skeptical.  Just my perception.

I was never sold on Swoopes but he played much better earlier in the season than he did in the end.  I just dont think he has the "IT" factor.  Hopefully he proves me wrong.  I would much rather move on to Heard and let the kid takes his lumps early and progress.  I think his running ability would prove to be much more effective than the lethargic Swoopes.

We went from a soft defense stigma the last couple of years to an inept offense last year.  Strong has fixed the defense.  Hopefully the spread changes helps our offense with Heard (not Swoopes) at the helm.

DMAC, jmho, but I believe that Strong fully intended to r/s Heard last year. When you consider that VY was redshirted, as well as McCoy, I can't help but think that is for the best.

I know there were conflicting reports about Swoopes/Heard, but I believe that Heard will come into his own this year. He will have growing pains, sure, but he will become a very good to great qb.

In a healthy program, you want the named starter to be a r/s sophomore or junior-not a freshman or r/s freshman. We are getting there. It will just take another cycle or so.

I think we've been out of the running for Robinson for quite some time ( see last years offensive offense). I don't think he flips either. Guyer kids tend to stick with the commitments.

Stay on him till the end but it's time to get serious about some other QBs.

First IMO the OL prospects this year is going to be deeper than a lot opeople thought. Texas has a good shot at Delance,Okafor and several out of staters.

So a QB commited to TCU, who can blame him looking at TCU vs Texas the last couple of years. IMO i had rather have a great OL and a good QB rather than the reverse. Even Colt struggled with fair OL in several games.

If I'm Texas you offer Ehlinger and Mascorro and possibly take both. Mascorro can play more than one position and indicated he's willing to do that. Then you continue to take your shots with Robinson. If it happens, great and if not you have two very talented prospects coming in.

I've mentioned before, but I've known Robinson's dad for some time. My old roommate worked for him in his first job when Coach Robinson was a head coach in Ft Worth. He's very no nonsense and Shawn is the same way. IMO, Robinson is not a kid to flip. His dad is very much about making a commitment and sticking to it.

Buddy told me at the end of season that Robinson was high on Baylor, TCU, and Ohio State. He isn't one to care about recruiting, but looks like he was right. As an aside, did anyone notice stud 2017 QB Chris Robison committed to OU last night as well.

Yes it was painfully obvious CS didnt want to burn Heard's redshirt in the last 2 games.  I was glad they didnt even though at the time I was wanting anyone else at QB.

I realize a Sophomore at QB is ideal over a true frosh or RS frosh but there are exceptions.  Mahommes broke the big 12 freshman passing in his 3rd game as a true freshman vs Baylor.  Watching him direct Tech offense was light years ahead of Swoopes.  I still remember frosh James Brown first start vs OU game to lead our horns to victory.

I think Heard performed better in the Spring game with the 2nd team offense vs the 1st defense than Swoopes did with the 1st team offense.

I think Swoopes will start the year but I would not be surprised to see Heard take the job if we see some of the same misery we saw vs TCU and Arkansas.

It may produce better results in the short term, but I believe that it is better for the athlete and the long term health of the program to gain the extra year of maturity. I think it was Chris Simms that counseled VY to be patient and to redshirt. He did, unfortunately, he didn't stay that extra year in school and continue the maturation process.

Robison was a pretty strong OU lean. Kellen Mond, Shawn Robinson, and Chris Robison all to Big 12 schools with Ehlinger or Mascorro likely as well. This might sound like smack but I'm genuinely curious, what is the A&M plan at QB in 17?

Tate Martell, Biship Gorman(Nevada)

http://247sports.com/Player/Tate-Martell-30208

Most national analysts believe we are the favorites to land him at the moment. He committed to Washington in 8th grade when Sarkisian was there, and ad his top three as A&M, TCU, and USC before Shawn Robinson pledged to the Horned Frogs. He is set to visit in July after the dead period, so I think our staff will have a better read on the QB situation afterwards. We have offered Robinson, Martell, Mond, and an Arizona QB (Ryan Kelley) thus far, but the focus has clearly been on Martell.

Robison has flew under the radar quite a bit. Kevin Murray talked with a group of Aggies at the state 7-on-7 tournament last year about the recruiting process and I was lucky enough to be in the discussion. He raved about Robison and so we went to go watch him after one of Allen's games and he lived up to the high praise.

It's June.

Strong just pulled down the #10 recruiting class in the country after a 6-7 season that saw him discipline half the team.

I'm not even a little bit worried - especially about a kid who can't sign paperwork for another 20 months.
