Season Prognostications

I know it is getting closer to the season starting. I find myself whistling "March Grandioso." My wife laughs and shakes her head as I clap my hands and say: "T ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผโ€“ E ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ โ€“ X ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผโ€“ A ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผโ€“ S ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ. . . Texas! ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ. . . Fight!" ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ

My girls will be going to their first game this fall, 3 and 5 years old. I have been introducing them to it all mostly through the music. They are pretty good at the Eyes of Texas, Texas-Fight, and March Grandioso.

Awesome! They will love it, especially the band before the game starts and at halftime. Enjoy these moments. They grow up fast. Make memories.

Speaking of memories, I remember taking my older son to one of the spring practices when he was a young boy. My son was throwing a football up in the air and catching it. Mack Brown came over. He asked my son if he can kick. My son replied, "Yes, sir!" Mack Brown told him to keep practicing. He might need a punter next year. My son replied, "YES SIR!" Mack Brown winked at me and told him he was counting on him. To this day my son talks about that. Make memories! I am wishing you and family a fun and memorable game.

Several Christmasโ€™ ago, my wife and I went to look at the lights in Burnet. Just so happens Coach Fred Akers and his wife were there. I had no knowledge he was suffering from dementia. My wife and I went up to them and introduced ourselves and told coach we were students while he was the football coach at UT. His dull eyes lit up and he smiled.

A little later his wife came up to us and thanked us for saying hello. Hearing his name and UT made his day his wife said.

I heard he passed away the following year.
