It's being reported by multiple outlets that Carterville (IL) TE Luke Ford will be visiting Texas later this week. Ford and his family are set to make a two day visit to see the campus and meet with the staff.

We are working on getting confirmation of the visit from Ford, but getting him on campus is a step in the right direction for his recruitment.

Getting Luke Ford on campus is huge. Kid is an absolute future NFL quality talent. Let's say Ford loves this visit, loves the staff, and loves the depth chart to where is seriously considering Texas, does that kind light a fire under Malcolm Epps to pull the trigger? I know Texas needs two TEs this cycle, but I'm just curious if Epps feelsbthe pressure to reserve his spot sooner.

Apparently Epps' parents are asking him to pump the brakes and take things slower. Which is probably for the best if we are being honest.

Best for him..absolutely. It's what I would tell my kid to do. Best for us obsessive fans during a very slow period where there is no football going on, absolutely NOT. It's all about me and no one else. I want it now [insert picture of Veronica Salt from Willy Wonka here]

I think Texas is comfortable with Epps taking his time. They haven't said it, but I don't think Texas wants his commitment right now.

I think Epps is a reserve option here (assuming we land Ford) with the Juco and Mustapha in front of Epps in the pecking order.

Johnny Utah approves of this.

I honestly forgot about the Juco kid and haven't heard too much on Mustapha in a long while. I didn't think Epps was a reserve option. I would've thought the staff would've taken if he committed. Maybe there is something behind the scenes, but I consider Luke Ford as a "reach for the stars" recruit. Sure there is interest from his camp, but For some reason I think it would be extremely difficult to pry him away from the SEC. Hey, if anyone can It's probably Herman (or Meyer).

Herman wants the JUCO guy + one of the high rated guys. The JUCO guy will be 1 and done with any kind of draft grade IMO. Herman doesn't want to be stuck after that with just Brewer and Leitao. Ford should be looking at the fact that he could starting no later than his 2nd year on campus.

Beck needs to stay healthy and that grad transfer needs to hurry up and get here ( whenever that will be ?? ). Don't think Herman wants to rely on true freshman TE's right out the gate and like Herman said: " You can't win the Big 12 with Garrett Gray as your starting TE. "

Depth is definitely not ideal right now, though the buzz has been positive on Leitao since his arrival. Take that for what it's worth.

I believe one of Ford's parents is a Texas alumnus. Bama is Bama, but I don't agree that they're necessarily the favorite. Two solid programs with one having the next Saban or Meyer and the other having Saban in his twilight seasons. And there's the depth chart at Bama. Texas holds that edge, easily.

IMO, it would have been an interesting situation if Epps had committed after being offered. Herman would have likely accepted it if for no other reason it would have been made an issue during a time when momentum was building. If Herman had not taken his verbal, then everybody and their dog would have used that against Texas on the recruiting trail.

So we're in a good spot right now. We have two that we're targeting very hard and with Epps, we're sitting good. It's how Texas needed this to be right now.

Dead period is hours from being over. I think we'll see some things develop very soon.

This is awesome to read. Fingers crossed that Herman can land him.

Also, it's nice to hear Leitao is doing well. Been waiting for the TE position to be relevant again.

It's been a long wait.  10 1/2 years and counting.
