Report: Chad Morris to Baylor becoming 'less and less likely'

Baylor has not had a great 2016. It's about to get worse. With only 1 commit in the 2017 class left, it now appears that Morris is starting to have second thoughts about the Baylor job. Who could blame him? That situation is going to be extremely tough, and take tons of work to turn that program around. If Morris does not take the job, who will? Will Baylor have to keep Jim Grobe another year? Would PJ Fleck consider Baylor over the Purdue caliber schools of the world? Time will tell. We will keep you updated as more developments arise.

Morris has already spent a couple years rebuilding. He would start all over at Baylor. And the skies there are still cloudy from the scandal. Sometimes the smart move is no move at all.

If not Morris, I would think Baylor would look to the second and third tier schools, possibly someone else in the Briles coaching tree.

Someone joked with me yesterday, asking me if it would be absurd if they hired Kendal Briles as HC. At first, it was absurd. Now, I'm not sure.

No reason for Morris to make that move. When Aggy dumps Sumlin after another late season tank, Morris (Aggy alum) is the obvious person to fill that position.

That said, it would be pretty crazy if a former Stephenville Coach (Briles) had his program (post-interim Grobe) handed over to another former Stephenville Coach (Morris).

Yep, that's how I read the situation too.

aggies have been in Morris's ear. Better for him to work another season at SMU and return to Collie Station. The BU job is gonna be damn tough for the foreseeable future.

It'll be an interesting job to keep an eye on. I could see Larry Fedora at Baylor. Fedora is from College Station, but his daughter is a senior at Texas. He would love to move back to Texas and close to home. I think If Baylor misses on Morris, that's who they go after.

Maybe, but I've read that Fedora is signed with UNC thru 2022.

His buyout won't be cheap. The rebuild is gonna take time, too. Carolina is a nice place to be - ask Mack. Do you leave that place for Waco? I don't think so.

Why would any established coach take the baylor job. Seems to me a long term coordinator or a hc on the downside of his career would take a shot, but to me the place is toxic and would not even think about it.

True Harrison. Are you hearing numbers way higher than what the rumored candidates are currently making?

Update: Morris officially declined the offer. Baylor is now moving far down the list. Next up? Sonny Dykes.
