I know quite a few site members enjoy sparring, but do we have any members who are fans of professional boxing? Sigma Chi still sponsors their annual Fight Night for those on campus, but I am not sure what the overall interest in the support is among HS members.

I prefer MMA.
There is a huge generational divide between those under 40 and those over that age when it comes to boxing/MMA. The Don King era crushed interest in professional boxing in the early 90s. People like Oscar De LA Hoya and Mayweather are now running boxing and it is surprisingly healthy in the state of Texas. Im wondering how many HS members have interest in the sport.

I am definitely over 40, I'll be 51 this year. I thought Tyson was a beast but I was happy Holyfield beat him. Also liked Sugar Ray Leonard. Course I was also a big Wrestling fan-Tommy Rich,Wahoo McDaniel and my favorite was Goldberg. I gave up on wrestling over 20 years ago. Season 1 of ultimate fighter got me hooked. Plus I met Dana White once. I took a picture with him.

A friend of mine is head of public relations for the WBC and NABF. She interacts a lot with Golden Boy/ De la Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Mayweather and the like. I was surprised to find how healthy boxing was in Texas. I was wondering if any members would be interested in some articles about the inside world of boxing.

i came of age during the great era of heavyweights in the 70s and then followed with great interest the leonard/hearns/hagler/duran era of the 80s.

now, i have no idea who the heavyweight champion of the world is. that used to be the greatest title in sports. is it still that russian guy?

This is me to a tee. The Don King era may have crushed boxing, but it was a lot more interesting than MMA.

I am a huge boxing fanatic. I rarely miss a televised fight and try to make any semi high profile event in the state. I'd love for HS to incorporate boxing articles.

I follow boxing peripherally...I'll watch big fights and I consider myself to be a Canelo fan. A good friend of mine growing up is a professional boxer and has fought on the undercard on big fights...he headlines quite a few of the PBC cable fights on Fox/Fox Sports. You guys wanna see an exciting fighter who just loves to get in there and throw, then watch Omar Figueroa. His little brother Brandon is also a professional and is undefeated through 7 or 8 fights.

Figueroa is the truth!  Love watching his fights.  Who's your friend?  Golden Boy recently signed a friend of mine who I train with.  His name is Alex Rincon. He's 2-0.  I love the PBC fights btw.  Erroll Spence is probably my favorite fighter right now.

I don't think McGregor will win unless he can get a lucky punch in. Mayweather wins by decision.

Omar is!! Lol we're from the same hometown and went to school together, same graduating class. So I always watch when he's fighting and we have events for them in our hometown

Don King ruined Tyson and boxing as a whole. Used to be a big fan but haven't watched a fight in years. Most pro sports, with the exception of golf, I don't watch and I enjoy all the extra time I have now!
