"Premium Members" Let Us Reach Out And Touch...

by now..  i am most certain, that many of us have logged on to the site, ventured into an open thread, and WALLAH!  you come across a somewhat disturbing and yet "threatening" posting...  presented by one of our "non premier members".  from my own standpoint, i guess what is most surprising as per this anticipated dilemma...  is that these disturbances, are becoming more substantial by the day.

well "premier members" let us not fret!  we shall not challenge fire with fire...  simply, because these are our "members", and we know that they really would like to remain as such....

therefore, starting right now...  whenever you should come across another "disturbing / threatening" posting as per any of our 'non premier members"...  please, let us perform the most "honorable" courtesy...  and try to reiterate to that particular member, that we want them to remain with "hornsports".  i for one, find this "courtesy" to be extremely important, simply due the fact that...  "hornsports" shall not continue to grow and prosper without a viable, confident, and yet energized membership.

please pardon me...  for i do not see performing this courtesy as "begging" the "naysayers".  nor do i see this as "kissing the ass" of the "naysayers".   i see it, as just being the good people that we are...   and the ultimate reason that we all sign up as members of "hornsports" in the first place.

let us reign in all of our members...

I shared my feelings about all of this on the   "Everything appears to be locked content .." , so I will not repeat myself here ... at least not too much, anyway!    I hope that the staff will follow through on making content and participation available in a way that will encourage people to stay and join us.  In fact, I am sure that that is going to happen.  It just takes time to get all of this done, and I have a feeling that you will be responsive in such a way that will mollify some of our obstreperous brethren and at the same time allow non-members to see the benefit of joining us.  I am looking forward to being a part of the growth of HornSports!

I like the way this site is coming together.  It just feels good.  I have one request long term.  I am partial to Longhorn basketball, As much as possible, I would like to see as much of an emphasis placed on basketball as possible.  I know that less of an emphasis on basketball has always been a problem with Longhorn sports sites, and I realize that resources and time, by the very nature of Texas sports, will be spent mainly on football.  That is just the way it is.   As someone who likes Longhorn basketball, I will take it upon myself to bring as much basketball from elsewhere with proper attribution, of course.  But, I have no other expertise with regards to basketball other than my enthusiasm.  So, just bring it when you can.

A simple PM showing support to a non-Premium member would be helpful in letting them know that changes are coming.  I've sent a few, and if I see any others I'll send more.  By this time tomorrow, we should see some of these new changes taking place and hopefully the non-Premium guys can breathe a sigh of releif.

Never apologize for trying to enhance a capitalistic venture.  No one can fault you for trying to make some money with this site.  It always amazes me when someone gets upset because they can't get something for free.

When you think about it, there are really only three options for generating revenue anyway:

1.  Charge membership fees

2.  Sell on site advertising

3.  Both #1 and #2

#2 option is the most appealing to the membership, but is wholly dependent on a LARGE membership base - in order to make advertising on the site appealing.
