Hey folks,

My family and I will be traveling down to Austin next weekend for the game. Had a wow questions I know you can help with

1. What’s the BBQ joint I must hit while down there. My family consist of 1,3, and 6 yr old.

2. Anyone have a opinion on shackshack burgers? We are huge in and out fans when down that way but I hear this place is better?? If not what’s your best burger joint for lunch

3. Would the kiddos enjoy watching the bats on Congress ave bridge? Worth it?

4.  Would like to find a tail gate group and meet few of you all good folks while at the game. That’s all. Have a good day AND HOOK EM!

1. Franklins, downtown. Get there very early. It will be a religious experience.

2. Almost anything is better than In-n-Out, so you're good.

3. Absolutely. Its quite a scene. It also reduces that natural fear of bats. They consume a ton of mosquitos.

4. I'll defer to Mike (MBHorns). He and his group have one that I hear is very nice.

Are you kidding me?

In that case, go to Mueller's in Taylor (about a half hour or so NE of Austin). Its the same family recipe as Franklins.

If you have to stay in Austin, then I'd defer to someone else here. CountyLine BBQ is OKAY, but not a must have by any stretch. But its a very nice setting to have a dinner or lunch.

If you're in a hurry, there's Rudy's.

Lol must be because we never get to eat it but we love in and out   thank you all for the suggestions we are gonna try them out

Cooper's or Stiles Switch for savory BBQ. County Line offers a nice view, but mediocre BBQ. Cooper's is on Congress at 3rd –within walking distance to see the bats. Stiles Switch is at the Violet Crown which was prominantly featured in Dazed and Confused.

Bonus BBQ selection: Slab BBQ at Burnet and 183. Great BBQ sandwiches that keep me and my out-of-state visiting customers coming back.

Hut's or Hopdoddy for burgers. Hut's is an iconic downtown Austin joint. Hopdoddy is relatively new to the scene, but really good and they make a great milkshake.

Bonus burgers: Moonies Burger House. All 3 locations are N/NW. Very good burgers and the fries are fantastic!

Screen shorted this and will be trying em out! Thanks for the feed back

1. When I lived in Liberty Hill, one of our favorite BBQ places to eat was Smokey Mo's BBQ.  I think they have multiple locations around Austin.  The meat was good, but I loved their sauces.  In fact, I have some family friends from LH send me bottles of their sauce here in St. Louis and everybody here loves it.  Countyline was ok, but Mo's was better to me. http://www.smokeymosbbq.com/

2. Have no opinion on the burger place.

3. My kids loved the bats when they were around your kids ages.  My god that was 9 years ago.

4. Out of my wheelhouse.

5. I was thinking about driving to Stillwater next year for the game against OSU so maybe we can setup a tailgate there.  I'm definitely going to the Kansas game in Lawrence next year so hopefully someone else from here will be going.

Being in STL, those are closest games to me.  Missouri was going to be it until those bastards moved to the SEC.

We hit the okiestate game every time it’s in Stillwater so we should def be able to make that happen next year!

Hopefully it will be a Ssturday game and not a Th one.  Now that my son is in college its harder for him to breakaway for a Thursday night game.  Had Iowa State been on a Sat then we would've went this year.

You seem like a good guy.....but if you think In and Out is a good hamburger, then you dont know what you are eating anyway. In and out is not even as good as McDonalds and those air baked fries are the worst I ever ate. Try What a Burger or 5 guys.

Hahaha we have both of those here in Oklahoma. They don’t compare to in and out. Maybe it’s because we only get to eat it once a year if we are lucky so it’s excellent to us lol

Been to county line barbecue twice. Both times had the beef rib which was outstanding. I can't vouch for anything else.

they also had cold beer.

in my opinion the best burger in town is at the dart bowl.  That's right, a bowling alley.  But if you like in and out you probably won't like my idea of a great cheeseburger. :-)

If you're wanting to live some nostaligia, go to Top Notch Burgers on Burnet. This is the joint that you saw McConnehue and gang at in Dazed and Confused. It's a good burger.
