****Official Texas vs UNLV Baseball Game 3 Thread****

Interesting stat - UNLV with 30 LOB this weekend. That's not good, but Texas doing a good job of fighting through tough situations.

Morgan Cooper in for Texas!!

Allen - Cooper gets gets his first K of the season. Looks good! Great movement on his fastball.

Jones - Cooper mixing in his changeup now. Gets Jones to foul out straight to the backstop, Tres makes the play. 2 down.

Esmay - now Cooper testing a very good breaking ball in this AB. Puts him down with a good 91 mph fastball.

Looks good in his return. Fastball in low 90s with good placement, changeup from same release point as fastball in the high 70s, breaking ball with some good break. Gets a 1-2-3 inning and makes it look easy.

Channeling my inner joeywa, EVERYBODY STRETCH!

Be ready next weekend; UR Stanford took both games of yesterday's DH vs #22 Cal St Fullerton.

Cantu with a nice AB with 2 outs.

New pitcher for UNLV, Top 7th

Boswell - Fly out to left, 1 down

Mathis - reached base in 6 straight plate appearances. Down 0-2, works to full count, and swings at a ball up and in. K swinging, 2 down. 7 Texas batters in a row sat down by UNLV.

True freshman pitcher now in for UNLV, trying to get some game time innings for their pitchers

Barrera - patient at the plate, gets ahead at 3-1 before taking a big swing and fouling off a fastball. Full count gets fouled off, fans groan as the easy grounder goes between the Event Staffer's legs in left foul territory. Needs to get his hand down quicker. Anyway, good eye by Barrera gets him a free pass to first.

Cantu - rips a ball down the LF line that goes to the corner. Tres hustles around the bases to score, Cantu holds up at 2nd

Texas leads 6-0, bats are making good, hard contact today.

2 down, runner on 2nd

Kacy - quickly down 0-2, looks at a ball outside, then floats a Texas Leaguer behind the base in center for an RBI single as Cantu scores from 2nd.

Texas 7-0

Kody - flies out to center to end the 7th.

Texas 7-0 heading to the 8th

Cooper comes back out for the 8th

First batter - gets up 0-2 by throwing that good breaking ball for a strike. Batter gets count even at 2-2, batter taps a slow roller back to Cooper. 1-3 groundout for the first out.

Pool - Cooper falls behind 2-0. Pool lifts it into shallow center, Gurwitz gets on his horse to get there in time to make the play. 2 down.

Ames - works a full count, earns a walk on a high fastball.

Yaz - after 2 home runs this weekend, Texas pitchers doing well today, keeping him 0-3 so far. Yaz hits a hard grounder to Bos's right at SS. Nice backhand field by Bos, throws to 2nd for out #3.

Texas leads 7-0 going to bottom 8th

Gents, thank you all for picking me up while I hopped on a plane. Your coordinated efforts are much appreciated.

Another new pitcher for UNLV I believe

SO Ben Kennedy PH for Rand - after falling behind, pitcher gets the count to full before getting a 6-3 groundout. 1 down

Jones - Jones falls behind 0-2, works the count full before taking a great swing and ripping a ball to left for a stand up double. 5th XBH of the game for Texas.

New pitcher for UNLV Blaze Bohall, the winning pitcher on record for Friday's game.

Gurwitz - batting over .300 this weekend at 5-13. Fouls out to first base, 2 down.

Shugart up in the pen for Texas. Looks like that's probs all we'll see of Cooper after about 30 pitches in almost 2 full innings. Good return for him, looks solid.

Bos - earns a walk. Runners on first and second, 2 down.

Mathis - earns the Most Dependable Player of the Game after going 2-3 so far with a HR and a double. K swinging on a good looking away breaking ball.

Texas 5-13 with RISP today. Good way to rack up the runs

Shugart with 8 pitches, 7 of them strikes. That's what a closer is supposed to do. You guys will be hearing his name quite a bit the next couple of years.

Shugart in for \m/ to start the 9th

VanMeetren - groundout to second, Kody fields it on the run for the 4-3. 1 down

PH FR Max Smith - first pitch, hits a grounder right to Kody, 4-3, 2 down

PH FR Taormina - Shugart FREEZES him with a great 1-2 backdoor breaking ball for the backwards K.

THAT'S YOUR BALL GAME!

Texas wins 7-0 with 10 hits and 1 error. Texas pitchers scattered 5 hits and they earn the shutout.

Augie post game comments:

Very pleased with the SA/SU games.

Building on a 3-0 lead and putting up more runs shows the competitiveness of the team.

Good to see Cooper back, and the operations had no effect on his ability to throw strikes.

Thanks to the fans for coming out to the Disch and supporting the team.

Mrs joeywa has already told me that she knows it's Longhorn baseball season after this weekend. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of date nights to make up for my addiction. ;)
