...what are your thoughts on the team going forward? Do you think the guys just had a letdown or do you think how we played is a sign to come?

The way we have played is a direct correlation to he quality of teams we have played.

How do you explain our win versus OU and our close call against Iowa State?

Hopefully it was a little let down. Lots of teams play only to the level of competition. Texas needs to play with the underdog mentality in every game. They obviously didn't do this vs Kansas.

In addition, I think the play calling needs to change. Run the ball off tackle more. And stop the dang fast tempo so we can run it up the middle for a loss crap.

I think Saturday's game might be perilous as well. We know they are a weaker team. If we play down to their level, They have the weapons to make us pay! Mack and company have to find a way to motivate the guys and get them into a mud stomp mode. That would be a great confidence builder heading into a tough Ok. St. matchup.

OU may have overlooked us...that and their offensive gameplan was Diazesque...one other thing, Bell is not a passer.

To me it looked like the gameplan was a plain play defense and run the ball down their throat. Also it was a) kansas and B) afternoon (all but OU have been night games thus far, i believe) which lowered the player's excitement for the game. This things considered the end result was pretty good. That being said, Texas will have to bring it's A game to beat Okie Light, Texas Tech, and especially Baylor.

I don't believe OU is that good, in fact I don't think they are a top 20 team, especially after a couple of injuries to D players.

West Virginia had to beat TCU in overtime and I think Texas wins handily at home. This game is in Mo-town however which means it will be tough for our guys. We squeak a close one out by a field goal is my guess.

Couple of random thoughts:

1. I really like how involved Daje is in this offense. From the jet sweeps (although it was too easy to anticipate at times), passing game, and return game. He is our best threat to score and our coaches are putting him in position to do so.

2. Swoopes has talent...his legs. Let him shake-it-off by playing zone-read when he is in. Give him a package of plays and go. I hope we see this soon. I think the more first downs he produces the better his passing will get. No, first downs don't equal good passing, rather, small wins positively help confidence, especially in that of a young QB.

3. I'm a little disappointed in the way we played at home. It had been over 40 days since the boys were in front of the crowd and to play as flat as they did is pretty telling. I think that is on the coaches. Yes, it was Kansas... just thought there would be much more fire.

4. Dalton freakin' Santos. That is all.

5. Neither of our starting corners are the best CB on the team, IMO. Byndom peaked his sophomore year and Duke is a little raw, prbly due to his dual-position experience.

6. One thing we haven't really faced in the last month or so is scoring adversity. We have been ahead most of the time lately. It is easier to run when you are ahead. What happens to this team (Case, MB, JG, etc.) if/when we start playing catch-up to WVU, Tech, Okie St, and/or Baylor? This is definitely something I'm worried about because if Case HAS to throw and he throws like he did (wildly and off target) against KU, it won't be good and I fear his turnovers will actually hurt us against better competition.

7. Our defense is playing very well and will continue to improve. However, I'm worried about facing dual-threat QBs.

8. I wish we had a true punter. Fera is money kicking off the ground though. I think he will be needed for a clutch FG soon.

Lost some confidence in this team after the weak performance against KU. This team can not afford slow starts against better teams like Okie State and Baylor. I had some hope after OU and TCU we could make it to Baylor game without a loss, but I don't see us beating Okie State at home now. I think we can handle Tech at home and some level of comfort about beating WVU in Morgantown. We go 8-4 and get a trip to Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. Woohoo!

That is what I believe OU did, just as Texas did with Kansas. As I stated after the BYU game (TOS), I think Texas loses to Ok St and Baylor, beats WVU, and the Tech game is a tossup.

The win streak can be explained fairly simply:

New Mexico State - Crap QB/Team - W

BYU - Decent QB - L

Ole Miss - Decent QB - L

Kansas State - Crap QB - W

Iowa State - Crap QB - W

Oklahoma - Crap QB - W

TCU - Crap QB - W

Kansas - Crap QB - W

Now we get four weeks of Decent to excellent QBs.

Good point.

Are we better off going 8-4 and know Mack is gone or go 10-2 and worry Mack comes back.

In some circles youre a hairy blue rectal cavity if you root for the Longhorns to lose.

In other circles, youre 100% ok to do it this year because it gets rid of Mack.

The question becomes, what is for the greater good?

EDIT: You do realize if he comes back after all this mess he will be completely assured of his own burnt orange Christhood.
