I posted this on the poli board but thought it's more suited as a sports topic...

Really?  If the government dictates something, the government SHOULD be able to govern it. Is GA going to create and hire a whole bureaucratic dept for oversight?  Of course not; most likely this is an unfunded (& unsupervised) mandate that the colleges will be expected to administer. The consequences will then fall on the colleges if it isnt perfectly administered.

Does an SEC school have the integrity to administer this honestly not to bribe athletes? unlikely.

Is this political pandering and ultimately a moot point if NCAA does not allow it?

And, would athletes be disqualified form NCAA events if this is beyond the NCAA NIL guidelines?

And, does it give GA schools a competitive advantage attracting top athletes or a hindrance if they have to give away 75%?

Is giving away 75% a way of sidestepping Title 9?

OR, is this a precursor to P5 schools breaking from NCAA in order to set themselves apart from the college competitive riff-raff?

It seems like a purely political move without regard to the competitive ramifications.  When something like this happens, it makes me wonder who is the lobbying group that pushed it.

A note from 24/7 UGA mod: "Interesting note from Seth Emerson here via Twitter. The bill states that state universities CAN withhold earnings until up to a year after the collegiate career is over. UGA, however, will not be making anyone wait. It'll be immediate."

I believe it eventually comes down from a federal level. But like it or not, it’s coming. No more schools solely profiting off a kids name. The kid can make money for himself.

oh, it's coming alright... and probably not a good thing.  They'll let it go for a while then everyone will want a piece of the pie and corruption will be worse than it is now.

The line between college and pro sports is getting blurred more and more.  Players getting to move from one school to the next; now getting paid.  All this is doing is creating “super” schools that can pay top money for facilities, coaching and now  players.  This is different than the NFL how?   Oh that’s right, a school can’t change location like a NFL franchise can..... for now.
