With the new coach coming in that means there are going to be staff changes. And it will probably mean wholesale changes. Who are some names that you guys would want on the new staff?

Offensive Coordinator

Philip Montgomery, Baylor

Tom Herman, Ohio State

Doug Nussmeier, Alabama

Scott Frost, Oregon

(making the assumption that the OC is also going to coach QBs)

Running Back

Frank Wilson, LSU

Gary Campbell, Oregon

Burton Burns, Alabama

Wide Receiver

David Beaty, A&M

Matt Lubick, Oregon

Derek Dooley, Dallas Cowboys

Jeff Scott, Clemson

Offensive Line

Joe Wickline, Oklahoma State

Ed Warriner, Ohio State

Mike Bloomgren, Stanford

Mario Christobal, Alabama

Tight End

Derek Lewis, Florida

Tim Brewster, Florida State

(Insert prominent HS coaches name here)

Defensive Coordinator

Pat Narduzzi, Michigan State

Derek Mason, Stanford

John Chavis, LSU

DJ Durkin, Florida

Justin Wilcox, Washington

(More than likely the DC will coach LBs)

Defensive Line

Brick Haley, LSU

Brad Lawing, Florida

Sal Sunseri, Florida State

Tosh Lupoi, Washington

Defensive Backs

Travaris Robinson, Florida

Kendrick Shaver, Utah State

Van Malone, Oklahoma State

well thought out lists
Wish I could say I thought about it. A lot of those guys I already am interested in. Obviously, it's hard to make much of a list depending on who the next coach is. I will say this, there are a lot of guys out there with Saban ties that I'd love to have.

If he didn't bring in Narduzzi like mentioned, I'd love for him to look at Jeremy Pruitt, the DC at Florida State. He was Saban's DB coach at Alabama before taking that job and is a GREAT recruiter.

I don't know whom I'd hire - but I like Scott Frost as an option at OC, he seems to have been doing really well as the WR coach at Oregon previously - he should know that system there that so many of us love. But that's if (Saban/New HC) was going with the spread. I'd definitely bring him in for an interview.

Thanks for starting a very fun topic, Lobo.

I hope Saban is open to a more new age O, not necessarily a pass happy O but something more than just I formation.

You know guys, why is no one talking about the one staff position that is need of a HUGE upgrade? Strength and conditioning coach. If we could get Scott Cochran as our S & C coach, that would set the table for the other coordinators/position coaches to do their jobs.

Hook'em!

Good point hornrush. I'm definitely making the assumption that Saban is bringing Cochran with him.

I believe it would be intelligent to find a place for DeSoto HS Head Coach Claude Mathis. Guy was a stud on title teams at Bartlett HS, stud at Texas State, played in the pros, and now leads a juggernaut in the Dallas area. The connections and possibilities with him are endless.

Mathis is damn good at Desoto. Would he consider the Ken Rucker, HS relations position? Who else would be a candidate for this position?

Very good list, several I hope we find a spot for. Frost as OC. Lewis and Brewster have Tx ties.Beaty at Aggy is very hard worker

I dont think so, he's going to want something to continue his rise. He was the guy rumored for the RB spot before Porter came on.

It's pretty obvious what a former HS coach can do. Look at the impact Jinks from Steele has had at Tech.

A good S&C coach can definitely make all the coaches look smarter an be rewarded as such.

I read where all of the Bama asst coaches were paid roughly 4.4 mil this year, we are gonna have to pony up some serious $$$ to get the best of the best. Prob > 5.0 just to make lateral moves.

I just want an offensive line that takes souls. Remember the guys on the 04/05 teams that would rip off your head and crap down your neck? No one EVER dared to call them soft.

One of the many fails that mack has made in the staffing area. Mathis should have been brought in over Porter IMO.

I wanted Mathis as bad as anyone, but I can't fault Mack for hiring Porter. Porter has some major skins on the wall in the college game, both as a RB coach and as a recruiter. We aren't talking about a Major-type RB coach hire here. Porter has developed some very good RBs during his career and also done an excellent job in recruiting as well. If Mack had been in a stronger position and didn't have aggy breathing down his neck or passing him by I could see him hiring Mathis. But he needed something high profile and that's what Porter brought with him. And Porter immediately paid dividends getting some major recruits to visit on the eve of signing day.

If I'm Mack's replacement (cough cough Saban), I'm hiring Mathis or someone like that to replace Chambers. Remember, Mack hired Chambers when he arrived from Carter HS to help him with the HS coaches and it worked out perfectly for him.

One of the only guys I'd want back from this staff with a new HC would be Wyatt as the WR coach, but I know it ain't happening because he'd probably be in line for a OC or HC spot at a smaller school.

Porter is another guy I wouldn't mind being retained. His recruiting skins are unmatched and our RBs are playing very well this year.

Well, the good thing is a new guy doesnt have to fire the entire staff, and he probably will consider at least a couple of these guys.
