Unbelievable news today with the news that 4 star outside linebacker from Harker Heights High School, Naashon Hughes, has committed to Texas. Hughes will greyshirt and could end up joining the team sooner if a spot opens for any reason. This says a lot about Hughes and his desire to play at UT, where his older brother Camrhon will play later this year. Dude turned down 2013 opportunities to play at LSU and South Carolina. Baller and gamer! His high school teammate Darius James should announce where he will play soon (and I bet he chooses Texas).

Naashon Hughes:

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 210

Hughes is enrolling next year and will pay his own tuition for a semester. This young man has his head on straight if he is able to take this step. Most guys would have taken the offer from LSU knowing they would play immediately. Nice to know he is in love with the Horns.

If he wants to play at Texas that bad then he is a badass. Let's see how the next year plays out though with signing opportunities elsewhere still in the mix.

So if he is all that then why isn't he receiving a hard scholarship for '13? I am all about keeping the family together but we need to pursue what's best for the U.

I think the coaching staff knows what they are doing. Tight scholarship year and Hughes is a pimp for recognizing that. Give him some props.

It shows the lure of the Texas football program. The legacy element at Texas is becoming more and more common these days. Helps with recruiting, that's for sure. Hughes is a strong player and he will be an asset to the team.

We need Vince Young to start having a lot of kids like yesterday....

Some people think this will be a hard commit to keep but I don't think so. His brother is already on campus and if he was going to red-shirt anyway, what difference does it make. You want these kind of kids in their program.

The ”itch” of playing ball sooner rather than later is a threat for Hughes. Dont know he redshirts with LSU or South Carolina. I hope he receives an offer to join the team next season. Paying your own way through school for a semester is tough also.
